Not a crippling storm, but a pretty good one for us. And it was wet and heavy. I shoveled 3 times in about 18 hours. My back is prettty stiff right now. Here's some pics: Note how high the snow piles are. That's a 4WD SUV and they're over that Bricky was funny trying to get around in the snow. He had to leap every time he wanted to move. Needless to say, it wore him out. He's sleeping somewhere in the house. He's been quiet since he came back in. |

Ah, yes. Fond memories... Need to call my Dad. My Mom timed it so she's in Florida Thanks for sharing, Mark. Kristine |
We got quite a bit too, not tons but more than we've seen for most of the winter... kids have been off for 2 days now. So far so good |
I could handle snow better if it came w/ sun and warm weather. Out storms usually drop the snow, then drop the temps so low that you wish it never stopped snowing.... Ah the joy of living in the middle of a large continent... We never see a snow with melting/wet pavement. OK, maybe in March. or April. Looks really pretty and white |
I can't believe this is your first major snow storm. Although I don't wish it on anyone, I'm glad to see it went northeast of us this time. Instead of the 12-24" predicted we got about 6". On top of what we already have had for over 3 weeks now, that's more than enough for me! Isaac injured his left knee trying to navigate around in the deep snow & then slipping & sliding on the path we had shoveled for him. He's just getting too old for this physcially but mentally wants out to play in it everytime I make a move! |
It's kinda been a strange winter. We really didn't have any snow until New Year's week. Then we got around 45 inches in 2 weeks. Then nickel and dime stuff until yesterday. This storm should put us at about 104 inches so far for the season. But this storm was weird, too. It was a nor'easter. So a lot of moisture from the ocean. It dumped a lot of snow and then just ended. The low pressure system must have moved slightly to the west so that Syracuse got into the warmer ocean air. That sent our temps up. And then we got into a dry slot as well. So the combo of warmer temps and bright late February sun, really helped to melt stuff. Still, a storm like this, followed by warmth (relatively speaking) and sun is pretty rare. |
I guess instead of walking, you can slide down those stairs!! |
I can't believe this was yoiur first snow storm! I live in NY also...way downstate on Long Island. We are getting socked with snow! Today we got socked again...About 18 inches on top of some ice that came last night and the leftover snow of about 7 inches last week...never mind the 28 inches we got in the late Dec time frame...I think we just hit the record for snow donw here from 1947...Spring? Soring??? where are you???? |
On a blog, our weather guy said it was the strongest Nor'easter that hit Syracuse since 2/14/2007. A commenter in that blog said the 2/14/07 storm brought us 16.8 inches and that you'd have to go back to 1/4/1994 to find the next strongest storm. I was shocked. Seemed like we've had strong storms since then. I didn't think this one was that bad. |
I agree, strange that this is your first big dump. Ah, but that's why you have trees, lawns, lakes and rivers. Glad you weren't left out of the fun. Yes, snow is far more tolerable if the walks and streets melt off!! |
You know it's a strange Winter when Dallas has snow, let alone the 12.5 inch storm we had earlier this month. And we are supposed to get another couple of inches next week, maybe. |
I have one question for Mark...In those pix there is lots and lots of snow but your car looks like it just got out of the showroom! How did you keep it so clean in all that mess |

How did you keep it so clean in all that mess When all the snow melted off the truck with the bright, late Feb. sun, the water washed down the sides of the truck & made it look a little cleaner. But the pictures are making it look much cleaner than it really is. Besides that, I try to wash it whenever we get a couple of drier days with above freezing temps. |
