I need a disclaimer for several of the next pictures--- Do Not try this at home!! unless your dog is very used to grooming and NEVER walk away from them! I was home alone and needed to get creative with holding his legs up to shave. Normally I have a helper hold the legs up. This time I meeded to use my grooming arm to help out. As you can see, Chewie really doesn't care..... maybe not thrilled, but just layed there, all relaxed. View of the belly before shaving. I had done a shave about a month pror to this: I used LeAnne's Andis clipper for this, with a skip blade (it was the blade on it when she dropped it off for me): Starting clipping at the chest and armpit: It's kind of hard to see, but I am in the armpit trimming. His chest is under my wrist/arm, the lower leg on the table is coming out towards the camera. Shaving with the grain of the hair along the belly: Switching to the rear leg to finish the back half: Completed belly shave: All done! After the belly shave: The hair removed from the entire haircut: Total time for brushout, scissors cut and belly shave was 2 hours. But, I had already brushed and bathed 2 days before, so that cut down on the total time. I hope this helps those that are thinking about doing your own complete grooming. It is lots of fun! |

so it looks like you shave close to the body til the grey hair and then gently blend up towards the body. I was nervous I was trimming to close and started to leave it a little longer on the belly. Now seeing the pics I will try again tonight and maybe I can convince my other half to hold a leg or two Beautiful trim have to bookmark the pics as a reference when I trim |
oh chewie what a champ he is .. love the pics they helped me alot .. not sure if either of my boys would let me put thier leg up in slip like that |
lots of fun and way to go Chewie! I've wondered where to stop up front, now I see clearly, thank you. |
OMG! Thanks for making me laugh today! Those pictures of Chewie with his leg in the air are hilarious. My guys would NEVER stand for that. We can barely touch their feet. I give props to anyone who can groom and you are great at it! |

What I wanted was to get the max area shaved and still not have it show when he stood up. Thanks :0) |
Thanks guys Chewie is the perfect subject for this. He and I work as a team in everything, even grooming He's kind of like a canine Gumby, I can pretty much pose him any way and he never moves. I figured with the leg in the air pictures, the response could go either way....either it would make you laugh, or you would be horrified.... . I must admit, it made me chuckle, and he literally rolled his eyes at me. This is the 1st time I ever tried it - I have seen it done once at a show with someone grooming alone who couldn't hold the leg and brush at the same time. |

I was going to post about the look on Chewie's face and say that if a dog could roll his eyes he would be. Obviously he can and did. |
Wow what a guy that Chewie is , I'm going to shave Dutch down (wish me luck ) but I'll never be able to do that to her , she would be up and gone... table, arm and maybe even me dragging along behind |
Dawn , can I invite you over??? |
