Sorry to hear that. I have an OES that I send to Doggy Daycare. If it's a good facility that will test him with the other dogs for compatibility and review their interaction. If there's a major problem with his behavior they should let you know about this. They're not going to let the dogs hurt your dog. How long has your dog been going to DD? Well, my baby will be 2 in July, so he's been going since he was 3 mos. old. |
He was fine the first few years, spent more time at the park than DD >he does have hip dysplasia and although he is big 111 lbs he not longer likes dogs jumping on him, he also lives with 3 women and sometimes gets mixed signals on proper behavior! he is loving, goofy and smart but veeeeeeeery demanding if you let him get away with it. He also goes to the dog beach which he loves, wwoild love to get him a companion from the shelter BUT the behavior issues bother us |
I have a sore hip right now and if someone jumped on me I would not be pleasant, in fact I'm cranky as heck without being jumped on. I would say that your sheepie and I need a diet, rest and a doctor's visit. |
a dog's behavior at a day care, with a group play time is often VERY different from how they behave at home, or even how they behave at a park with you present. I'd let the day care know about your concerns and then let them evaluate your dog. My girls will also guard the water fountain at the park. I make them do a sit stay until the fountain is clear of dogs, and then let them drink. If another dog comes by, I make them come and sit-stay again until its clear. If they can't share nicely, then they can't drink until no other dogs are present. Another option, if your dog's commands aren't 100%, is to bring a personal water source for your dog. Obvious, a bowl won't work as other dogs are likely to try and use them. I have these for the winter months, when our park turns off the fountain for fear of the pipes freezing: http://www.rei.com/product/753131 My dogs are guarders, and its never been an issue at Day Care. I say be open with the folks that run your facility, and let them help you guys sort it out. Good luck! |
