| Well, yes, a little far for me - about 12 hours. BUT, if you need help while Deana is in the hopsital, Madeline Erikson is near you. She is a big breeder and rescue person and very resourceful and helpful. I am not suggesting rescue. I am saying maybe she has some resource to come and take care of the dogs in your home so you an stay with Deena in the hospital. I'm sure someone here has her contact info... Poor Deena, I bet is worried sick about the doggys...Knwoing they're okay will help her recover...And will give you peace of mind to stay at her side... |
| We are very familiar with Madeline - We've rescued 3 OES's from her and she lives quite close to us and has visited our home on several occasions. Richard - thanks so much for posting. I was wondering what was going on. Last time Deana posted she was having trouble with her legs and the edema, weeping and infection. Now pneumonia - I'm so sorry.  And you just home and recovering too. Please give Deana my best wishes. Pneumonia is so draining.... |

| I was sick earlier this year; and we did a lot of doggy day care to help keep the dogs exercised and active, as well as out from under foot. Maybe you have some place they can go like that near you? That way, you can go to the hospital to visit Deena and not have to race home to let the dogs out. |

As of yesterday the antibiotics didn't seem to be working and had to be changed to another. Her breathing seemed to be a little better last night. Along with everything else they are addressing the wounds on her legs. I know I'm supposed to be taking better care of myself too, but I just can't seem to eat and I must pace 100 miles a day... I hope there's some improvement when I go down this morning. Thank you ALL for your prayers and well-wishes. I will update here again with more news... Thank you all... |
Poor Deana! Poor Richard! You guys just can't seem to catch a break this year.  I know how hard this must be for you, Richard. But you HAVE to take care of yourself because how you are will directly affect Deana's state of mind too. You both are in my prayers. |

| Another update! Deana was removed from the respirator for a short time - but because she was breathing shallow and her heart-rate was faster than it should be she was put back on it. Things seen to be looking up (at least right now). We still need your prayers and well-wishes! Her eyes were open today but she did not recognize me or respond to my voice. It hurts so bad! Maybe some improvement tomorrow. I'll post again. Yesterday and today we had about 16 inches of snow - which really slows down the traveling. Why now??? I appreciate ALL your prayers and hopes that she comes back to us soon. Thank you. |

| For what its worth...My Mom was on a respirator on and off throughout her illness. It was not uncommon that the first time they took her off, she had to be put back. So I wouldn't let that discourage you. They also sometimes keep the patient ( Deena) a bit sedated with the respirator so she may be a bit groggy and not recognize you or show she recognizes you I should say. She can hear you and feel you. Talk to her, hold her hand, tell her everyone is okay and the dogs are okay. She will hear you. You just won't know it... We send our prayers and well wishes |

| Hang in there, Richard. As mentioned, the drugs make Deana more groggy and disoriented, so keep up the touch and chatter. The snow timing really bites for you - makes the trips in and out that much more difficult than it needs to be. Big hugs to both of you and give Deana our best |

| Another update! Deana was taken off the respirator for 3 hours today and she had her eyes opened and seemed to respond more than yesterday. She was able to breath on her own for a while. I told her I posted here and that everybody sends her love. They put her back on the respirator to ease her breathing. I pray this is a first step for her in recovering. I told her our babies need her as much as I do. The doctors say it's up to her now... I hope each day it gets a little better. Thank you for your prayers and concerns. God bless you. Richard |
