He has never even tried to hump anything, so this behavior has me puzzled. It may be a late adolescent thing, but he will be 3 in May. I am thinking I will have to get a belly band soon if this keeps happening. I am pretty sure he will grow out of it, but it has caught me by surprise both times. I wish it weren't so darn funny too...he needs to find another way to tell people that he loves them. UGH!!! |
|
Very interesting!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He is such a sweet boy~~~ He probably thinks he is doing something good!!!!! |
How funny!! I wish I could introduce Nigel to some people I know |
Gemma, nine months old, still pees when she gets very excited - generally around the people she is really happy to see, and on their feet. I was hoping she would outgrow this! This isn't good news - it might get worse... |
Bwahahaha! (Sorry, Wendy) If one considers the notion that marking is marking of territory I guess he owns them... Yes, a belly band should interrupt things long enough for him to remember that you don't do this Boy dogs! Who knows why they do what they do? Kristine |
Oh Wendy ********Warning - may offend********** One of Todd's brothers had a male lab that started peeing (lifting his leg) onto people. He did it to Todd twice. The 1st time he was shocked......the 2nd time he was ready.... he unzipped and peed right on the dog! The dog NEVER tried that again! Now, that won't work for us females, but I thought it was pretty innovative |
Nope...can't do it. He is neutered...I have never had this problem with a neutered male before. Dawn...I may need to talk to you about belly bands. |
If its long enough tie a knot in it Wendy, that should do it. |

Neutered males can still pee...but you're a smart woman, you already know that. So I'm guessing it's hubby who won't pee on Nigel? Or is it because Nigel doesn't pee on hubby? Oh, never mind, this is getting complicated. And weird. Thanks, Dawn! Oddly enough I have no problem believing that Todd would pee on an offending dog and so if Che, who is also male, neutered and weird, takes up this hobby he's being shipped to Dawn's for boot camp. Or pee camp. Or what have you Kristine |
LMAO Dawn.... priceless.... |
Glad to make your day Sadly, I find that I (or my family) have experienced most every possible dog oddity....... Oh, and I'll warn Todd he may have some dogs coming over for "training..... |
Dawn, if I send him to you can you bathe him after Todd pees on him? I did mean the marking behavior Kristine...never had a neutered boy mark anything but outside bushes. I guess I have been lucky...never had anything but OES boys, and this is the first one to do something like this. |

Lots of neutered males (and a number of spayed females! You should meet Sunny's Havanese... ) mark. But they do so because they weren't trained to do otherwise (Che and I had words on the issue, for instance) A dog who doesn't mark and then suddenly starts...? I don't have any great insight, sorry. But it does strike me as really odd. Kristine |
He has done this 3 times Kristine. 1st time in October on my daughter's black suede tennies. I thought it was due to Bella's Proin scented drips that time. Once a few weeks ago on my daughter's friend's black suede tennis shoes while she was wearing them. To be fair, this gal really gets Nigel excited and he totally wiggles for her. She always winds him up and comes from a dog owning family. Yesterday it was after we had taken the dogs for a walk, then went into my neighbor's yard for a few. We are trying to teach Nigel how to play with others, and he was peeing and marking in my neighbor's yard as her dog has been there. He walked over to us and peed on my friend's black suede shoes. I am hoping this will pass. I am really thinking about the belly band though I have never used one. Anyone else out there have any experience in using them? |
I see a pattern - black suede shoes.... |
exactly, can we try blue suede shoes?????????? on the serious side, i had to figure out wth was going on when my neutered male started peeing when company came and had never done it. he was around 3 or 4. turns out it was only when the redheaded friends of my oldest daughter came over!!!! yeah, go figure. |

That has got to be the funniest thing I have heard in a while. |
Todd rocks Nigel HATES Black suede shoes, tell visitors they are banned when visiting |
Seriously Wendy - I think it is the suede. It probably has a scent that makes him want to mark it. Since there is a pattern with the suede shoes maybe you can be prepared if you spot any "offending shoes" in Nigel's vicinity. I am curious as to how Nigel reacts when you correct him as he is doing it. I noticed that Harry will do something, like greeting a crotch for example, but will quit it once he realizes that it is not considered acceptable by us humans. A couple of "HAR-RY!"s or a "NO!" will usually do the trick and if timed during the offending behavior he makes the "this is a bad thing" association pretty quickly. |
I swear Judi it happens so fast we never have time to react...by the time we do it's too late. I am ready for him now though...we will be aware around suede shoes and watch the boy like a hawk. |
Oooh Wendy, I HATE that caught unaware crap. Makes it so hard to correct. On top of it you don't want to have to continually approach people staring at their feet. This makes me wonder if you can set him up, sort of as an experiment. Of course it would have to be with a pair that he has not yet marked. Chances are slim though that anybody would want to offer up their shoes for testing. |
