I also want to know how much attention I should give her and my other pets - Halifax, Kiley and Tigger are here too - I can't forget them. Should I divide it up equally - or should I give attention in order of dominance? (Like those who are here first get the most attention?) |

I'd say just do what comes naturally.... |
I would sit in the floor and love them all. Some or one will want to sit in your lap some will sleep sometimes they will all play etc.. THey may all want to sit in your lap. Don't allow aggressive behaviour, don't give the impression that you have a new favorite. As Willowsprite said just do what comes naturally. |
I'll vote for that too, just be natural.
When a foster dog is at home, we've sat on the floor and play with all. It's exhausting having to throw 3 balls all the time, but it's a lot of fun. It's hard, but pet them all and try not to show you have a favorite so no social ladder climbing is required from your pets. |
I agree. You should play with them all as much as you can. Of course when it comes to playing with your new puppy too much the first day--I know when I get mine next week I won't wanna do anything but play with him. Unless he's sleeping of course. |
We had only 2 cats when Jack and Annie came to live with us. One of them got very, very jealous of the pups. The other was fine and never had any problems, he took adjusting to the pups very well. We had to give O'Malley more attention and bring him into another room so that he still felt special. He is and has always been alpha cat, and he is alpha over both dogs as well. So I think you should do what comes natural, but keep an eye on the signals that the cats are giving off. One might need more attention or time to adjust to the new puppy.
Good luck and congrats!! Stormi and co. |
