vet bed

does anyone have any experience with this bedding. its good quality and well insulated, much better than the fleece that cappi has been sleeping on. so why, oh why, is he blatantly peeing on it? he has been going to the door when he needs to go out and in between i put him out on a regular basis, so no accidents all week.

this wasnt an accident, he just stood up from knawing his toy and did it, there right in front of me!!

Is this in his crate? If so, I'd take the bedding out. It's not uncommon for them to pee on it, especially when they're young. Maybe wait until he's older and give it another go but definitely don't spend any money on anything. My youngest one has never liked anything in his crate. Even now I got him a nice pad and he squishes it all over to one side and avoids it.
My younger one would pee on anything presented to her that was new. new meaning new to her - new smells I guess.

I don't keep anything in the crate until about 8 or 9 months at least. Maybe a blanket but I also found she would squish anything over and sleep on the cold crate pan
Marley still scrunches up anything I put in her crate and uses it as a pillow.

The boys just keep scratching everything out of their way :)
i agree. i would not put anything in the crate except a heartbeat pillow. i had a huge problem with Bentley but he was sick. When he was 8 weeks i put a comforter in the back of the big crate so I could get some sleep. only did it for 2 weeks. not the right thing to do but helped me get the rest I needed to deal with him all day. Not sure he ever went pee on it but he never pooped in the house or the crate. What time are you feeding him? Restrict water after 7:00pm. Feed him dinner by 5:00pm and make sure you are going outside with him to make sure he is going pee and poop before bed.
Good luck!!
nope the bedding was just on the floor, he hasnt done this with other beds/blankets, which is why i thought the vet bed might have something in it.

maybe he loves it so much he didnt want any one else using it!!
Vet bed is great but also did his breeder use it in the whelping box?

Might be he associates that with being able to pee on it.

Try changing the bedding in the crate for a little while to something else rather then the vet bed and see if he does not do it again. Make sure when using the vet bed again, thoroughly washed with no pee traces on it at all because if not and you want to use it again for bedding he will pee on it due to the scent being on it.

Still only a tiny tyke so accidents will happen at that age. So just try something else for bedding in his crate and see what happens, if nothing then he is associating the vet bed as a potty area.
Like Lisa I wondered if he had the same sort of bedding in the whelping box.

I had a similiar kind of problem with my dalmo. Dalmos in my experience are really easy to potty train and Rastus was peeing in the house every night. He wasnt crated just confined to the kitchen.
I couldnt figure out why because he was fine during the day. When I got held up due to an emergency one day and got home expecting him to have peed as I'd been gone over 9 hours and found him busting but hanging on with his legs crossed so to speak, I realised I'd missed something.

I had been putting old newspapers down at the back door in case of accidents. I rang his breeder and asked did she use newspaper in the whelping box. Guess what? Yes she did!!!

I'd been leaving him a message saying its ok to pee here. I never put paper down again and he has never had an accident in the house again and he's 7 now. He's like a camel and can hold it forever. 8O
how simple, whelping bed, never crossed my mind. thank you so much, this has done the trick.
