I have 2 other dogs and never had ths problem . Help please. Washing everything daily is getting old , real fast! |

How about letting him out twice in the night? How old is he? |
He will be 2 months tomorrow. I know that he is young but I dont want him pooing in his crate I have to bath him everyday ! It is really hard. |
What time does he get to go out again after 1 or 2??
At 8 weeks he can't hold it long yet... |
How big is his crate? Sometimes giving them only
enough room to turn around helps. Look through the crate training threads for info on that. I know there are a few there about crate size, I just don't know where they are. Shellie |
Your puppy was the one that developed diarrhea after arrival, right? (I hope I got the right puppy paired w/ the right humans. )
Is that still part of the problem? A gastric upset can take very little to reflare up. Pottying - are you going out with and supervising? On lead is best - it stops playing and keeps them on track. A pain in this fine weather , but will pay off in the long run. Then really reinforcing the deed the moment it happens is key. Otherwise, going outside and pottying is a pretty randomly happening behavior. Or if they go, they also played, sniffed, chewed something, ran around..... - so the fact that potty was the goal is pretty much lost.... As a litter born in the winter, they probably did most of their pottying indoors as well. Especially as your pup is just 8 weeks now and barely old enough to be away from the litter. I hope you see progress, I wouldn't love washing every morning either |
I think at this age you should be taking him out 2-3 times in the night to go potty. Watch the frequency of his potty and take him out accordingly.
I'm not an expert but this is what I did for my pup. |
I was wondering if he has some sort of mild gut irritation too. Maybe a trip to the vet with stool sample in case he has something medical going on.
Whats the rule, their age in months plus one hour is roughly how long they can hold it so he may need to go out every 2-3 hours. Hope it settles, the laundry and bathing would be taking up a lot of your day that you'd rather use to play with the little sweetie. |
I did take him to the vet on Tues. with stool sample and everything was fine. Last night Let him out at 11:00 before I went to bed. Then I got up at 2:30 , had already pooed. Took him out anyway for about 1/2 hour. Then put back in kennel. Got up at 4:30 and he had pooed again. This time it was runny and not as much as the first. Changed all bedding again and walked again for about 1/2 hour. Put him back into crate. Then my hubby got up with him at 8:00 . No poo. We have put him into a smaller kennel too. Ug, hope this stops soon. |
I hope his pooing becomes normal. My dog also used to poo twice in the night in the beginning. I'm not an expert but I don't think you should be taking your pup out after he as pooed in his bedding or inside the house 'coz then he may think 'after I poo inside, I get a wonderful walk outside'. Everyone, please correct me if I'm wrong here. |
Yippee Skipeee! We did it!! Last night was the first night that we had no accidents in the kennel. Walked at 11:00 went poo! Out at 12:30, tinkled, out at 2:45 tinkled, Then out at 4:45 and pooed!!!! I did however fall down the steps at 4:45 totally missed the bottom 2 steps, sigh! But is was worth it because he seemed to know just what to do !! So excited!!! My hubby got up at 8:00 with him and let me sleep in. So happy! Thanks everyone for words of encouragement really appreciate it. I know that he will still have accidents but , one small step at a time makes me happy!!! |
Oh that's great news. What a blissful sleep in. Sounds like he's getting it at last. |
Nice....but sorry you fell on the steps - ouch! Welcome to the world of getting excited about pee and poop |
