I learned a valued lesson

I am minding my son's 15 month boxer, Shelby, while he is away. She was playing in the snow this morning with our Chloe and caught scent of deer, and off she goes. Through a narrow fence gap, over the neighbors hill, and into another subdivision. No recall even using her favorite "treat" or "byebye" worked. She did return after she saw our truck crusing the neighborhood with Chloe hanging out the window helping in the 7am search. We've all had similar experiences, I hope. I still had pjs on, soggy wet houseshoes and unbrushed teeth. Heartsick that while Shelby was properly labeled with her tags, only my son's phone number is listed. He is on vacation and probably wouldn't have answered a strange number. Shelby is now and will always wear Chloe's collar when she visits. Chloe has several tags. At least, if she should ever again run away, I will be partially soothed knowing my cell phone will be the primary contact. It was a close call with a good ending. Whew!!!!!!

Very frightening!
Yes, I had a similar experience this summer. Only my daughters dog DID get injured - lightly hit by a car. Amazing, as he is a 6 pounds MinPin 8O . The nice guy stopped after hitting him on the highway and brought him to our vet's. We are in the country - town and vet are 5 miles away. Spike was wearing his tags - from New York - and we are in MN. She had been home with him for a visit, and was moving back in a couple weeks. She thought it would be SAFER to leave Spike here and not fly him twice more, as he has to be sedated.

Daughter Lisa got the call at work in NY, she called me and was crying, wondering why her dog was injured and at the vets......BAD scenario

I ran in to town and ID'd Spike and authorized all the treatment. After xrays, steroids, pain meds, and a 2nd trip for sedation and sutures, he has recovered. Amazing, for a 12 yr old rescue Min Pin. He had temporary unilateral paralysis from a spinal cord injury (cervical) that resolved with rest and drugs. It took about a week, but his legs all started working again. He healed up pretty well, just a small scar or 2 on his head from where he hit and had the skin ripped lose. Poor Spike.... but thankfully he is back to his sassy self these days. :)
another frightening story with a good ending. Our family had a min-pin once. They are so fast, aren't they?
Shelby is irritated with Chloe's collar on, it apparently jingles differently
Scary. 8O Glad it worked out okay in the end. I would have been so panicked.
