this September there is a big OES show in Rochester. Not sure of the exact date mabe others know. I you ever come to Rochester let me know Bella would love a get together. |
TENTATIVE schedule for the Old English Sheepdog Club of America's National Specialty in 2010:
Sept 19th - Herding Test/trial (closer to Buffalo - the rest is near Rochester) Sept 20th - Agility Trial (OES only) Sept 21st - Obedience and Rally Trials (OES only) Sept 22nd -The Top 20 and the health seminar Sept 23-24th - National Fluffy Stuff Sept 25th- Regional Fluffy Stuff They'll be a resue parade in there somewhere, so I think it's pretty much obligatory that you both show up for that... I'll post the date of that once I know for sure. If you have a rescue OES you are expected to BRING her and participate in the parade. Just so you have some warning and can, you know, train to walk politely when walking around the ring to cat calls and clapping and such. I mention no names, but a certain OES rescue boy <Guinness> created QUITE the stirr when he did the honors in fine bucking style in Virginia in '06. Kristine |
what is the regional fluffy stuff?? Do I have to register Bella with the AKC to get her a number for the rescue parade?? |

The fluffy stuff is the breed judging, i.e conformation. My shorthand is Fluffy Stuff because of all the grooming that is involved. First you have the national specialty breed judging and then following a regional specialty, i.e. more chances to groom!!! As for the parade, no, Bella need not be registered with the AKC. The Rescue Parade is considered a special event. It's not a competition and not sanctioned by the AKC as such. Though depending on how it's done from year to year I think they may some times have competitions associated. Or at least I some times think I've seen some of the dogs dressed up. There are people on the forum who have actually taken part so they can probably give some first hand accounts. On occasion, handlers involved in the Fluffy Stuff have helped groomed rescue entrants, just for fun, i.e. so they have been shown Fluffified. Though this is not a requirement. And I seem to recall one year, Michigan, maybe? Doug Johnson, I think, actually handled one of the Fluffified Rescue OES in the ring. Maybe it's all that hair going to my brain over the years. I know there are people with better memories than me about these events. They're fun in any event. I know that. And with Madeline Ericksson (NYS rescue) being on the specialty committee and the specialty being virtually in G/A's (NEOESR) backyard, I can't imagine but that this year's rescue event is going to be a hoot! Kristine |
Who are you talking about???? There was a rescue sheepdog that bucked and twisted in the rescue parade??? I was there don't seem to recall any of that!!!! Maybe you were tired from all that driving |
We have been in three OESCA Rescue Parades and
they are a blast! I could never do conformation as I cry walking around the ring in the rescue part. It is so nice to hear the OES community cheering for YOUR dog! Some do dress their dogs up, we never have. (Basically Mom is very uncreative!) I always have good intentions.... If you check the website maybe mid summer they will have a registration form at www.oldenglishsheepdogclubofamerica.org I will post it on here as a reminder as well... I won' be there this year in NY but, maybe you can come next year to NC!! This is from the OESCA Centinnial in Lancaster, PA. (note the two on the left of the pic making out are Murphy and his Dad! ) |

It remains one of my alltime favorite specialty memories. He was AWESOME! Kristine |
It is in my memory too speaking of numbers I have his!!!!! |
If you check out the the play date listed for Central Pa., you'll see that we are attempting to get together just south of Scranton, Pa. in April.
We would love to have you join us. The information for finalizing the event has been slow do to a death in the family of the lady that runs the farm............. come on down and chase some sheep.....more later. |
Thanks for the info on the Rochester and Scranton "events". I am definitely going to block off the Sept. dates to attend the Rochester functions. We actually got Winston from Madeline with the NY Rescue, so I definitely want to take part in the parade. With my luck he'll be the one acting out this year. LOL. I'll be sure to walk him at a very popular walking, biking and rollerblading trail all summer long so that he gets used to all the activity.
I also want to hear more about the Scranton get together. It's probably a couple hour trip from Syracuse is all. Come April, that will be a welcome drive after having been hibernating all winter in the house. Any other events, or just local individuals that might enjoy getting together to play and or take walks and train? Just let me know. Jacqui |
Jacqui,
I'm in Syracuse (Solvay) and even though I don't have a sheepie right now, I'd be more than happy to meet up with any other sheepie owner. I often go to the dogpark at Longbranch Park with my airedale when the weather is good. I think I've only seen one sheepie there before. They seem to be pretty rare around CNY. Hope to see you around CNY. |
That would be awesome Mark. Now we just have to hope for the weather to turn. Ha. Like that's going to happen soon. Well, the first day of spring is only a month from tomorrow. That's hopeful. |

You know very well that that date on the calander doesn't mean anything in CNY. PM me when the weather gets better and we can meet at the dog park. |
