Sounds like it's an antibiotic for skin infections. The "cef" means it's from the cephlasporin family of drugs, like Keflex that you probably have heard of. |
Bumble was on it twice last year... longer the second time.
We didn't observe any problems. |
Thank you. yes it is for a skin infection - or rather to avoid one! She got the medication for the first time today and seems to be okay with it. No problems. I was worried about vomitting or something but gave it with food and so far she seems fine. Thanks again! |
Barney is on simplicef right now, and has also been on it in the past for his skin infections. It works well and he's had no side effects or anything while on it. |
It's purported to be a very good antibiotic for skin problems.
Cephalexin caused vomiting in one of mine so Simplicef was used. In that girl, it was better tolerated. |
I thought they were the same meds under different names and that was the cause of concen in my first post. Sometimes reading on the internet causes more confuion than not |
It's a good question for the vet because I'm still confused
It mentions the once daily dosing and a longer half-life that allows for it. It also mentions an extended spectrum coverage. http://www.simplicef.com/Simplicef.aspx ... OO&sec=300 If they're comparable, I'd opt for the least expensive on. I wish we had a Costco here- http://www.costco.com/Pharmacy/frameset ... CEPHALEXIN |
