I have snow pictures to post pending approval. Hope my ibuprofen kicks in soon from all the shovelling!

We had internet problems yesterday - I think all the people and KIDS at home yesterday flooded the system! 8O
It has been very quiet, don't know why. We can't all be this boring.
Yeah it's been really quiet- I was shocked to see 'no new posts' after a whole morning the other day- then I remembered most of you guys would be asleep anyway :D

I'm waiting for better weather so we can out & do fun stuff again.

I like the time differences - I like getting up and seeing that you guys in the UK, Europe and Aussieland have been on! :D
^^^

Me too esp since I am up at odd hours anyway.

I too think it's depressing on here lately. I miss random posts about nothing, and most of all.. pics from many of our missing users.
Send them emails or PMs...
I have sent many members pm's, so maybe it will take more people pm'ing and a little pick up on the atmosphere here? It's just nice to vent about the people we miss.
May be speaking out of turn, but at times lately, this forum has seemed a bit 'clickish"... o me anyway. One of the reasons I really liked to come here was the respect among all of the participants.

In the last few months, as I have read the posts, it seems there is a subtle snip here and there, with a few members. May be ALL wrong-- or really off base, but personally, I feel the chill, and without going into details, was a bit put out myself a few weeks ago.

There -- I said it. Now it is off my chest.
Did anyone see it this Sunday?? They had two sheepies on. My husband is there watching and goes" Ya know they kinda look like Bella" When I adopted Bella I just told my hubby that Bella has a coat "sort of like a terrier's" He doesn't really know much about dogs and I new I really really really wanted Bella..... Since she had to be shaved when we got her she didn't look like a sheepie. I was concerned he would have a cow with the hair"thing" so I didn't say too much just let him have his ignorant bliss. He says she is the smartest dog he has ever met :D Bella and I know better she is a sheepie is disguise.... we'll stay in the puppy cut and keep our cover 8O

Very true and noticeable to many others as well. Hopefully the many new members who have joined will fill that void. :)

I have only been a member here for a couple of years, but it has seemed to me that the people here have always been click-ish. And I think that's a societal norm. People find like minded people to chat with, and I don't think there's anything wrong with that. I'm a visual artist by trade; as a result, I often message the other members that share my interest in the arts, like Wendy58, Ravenmoonart and Sheepie Dreams. I imagine the people that breed probably message each other, the people that do competition do as well, etc, etc. But I don't think my messaging other people that share my interests results in my being less active a member on the boards in general. So I'm not sure that I would attribute that "click-ish" nature of people to the lack of activity.

As for subtle snips? I've experienced them since i joined as well, and I haven't noticed an increase. I joined and was subjected to the usual "you got your pups from a BYB; don't you see how bad you are?" type of posts. And once my pups began having behavioral problems, I got snippy posts about how I "got what I paid for". When I decided to stick it out, and do whatever training I had to to be able to keep my dogs, I was then treated to QUITE the negative up-roar regarding the methods I chose to employ, when nothing else worked. So maybe, having been treated to a spectrum of snip and bashes, I'm more immune to them now. But I don't see the increase that has been mentioned here and other places.

I've made a lot of friends here on OES.org, despite my being outspoken and rebellious. And I think Life happens. Economic down-turns, health issues, family crisis... these sorts of things pull us away from out computers and the community we have here. Hopefully as people's lives start to settle, they'll wander back. I was very sick back in the Fall, and as a result wasn't posting as much. I'm going to have some surgery in the near future, and that will likely keep me from my computer desk as well. But I know I'll eventually wander back; I suspect many of the people we aren't seeing posting right now will wander back as well.

And if you want to see postings increase? I could always re-open discussions about my dogs and our training!!!!

No, it's true. Who wants to post when you know before even posting that you're going to get attitude or a lecture no matter what it is? It sucks. I don't want to hear it. I'm not claiming 100% innocence on snippy responses but, at the same time, I do try to at least give replies that are more on the encouraging side until I get too annoyed. Then I just try to shut up. Key word: try. :)

Allison's right: people naturally gravitate to others that they have in common with, there's nothing wrong with that. I don't think cliques are necessarily an issue but a lot of people have friendships outside the forum and I think when we end up highjacking threads with inside jokes or other off forum matters, it turns people off who aren't part of that. Sometimes it just happens, though. A classic one-thing-leads-to-another conversation.

One thing I do miss is having heated debates over issues. I like a good well thought out argument even if I'm on the other side. Not just repeating something over and over again because someone "thinks it should be that way" but real info based on experience and research. It makes you think about things in a new way even if you don't agree.
I think every online community ebbs and flows naturally.

Around here, I notice that once in a blue moon someone well-known in the community gets upset about something and leaves in a huff (or maybe they're escorted off the premises, so to speak), and the rest of the community just kind of straggles along for a while until they find their groove again.

I think it's perfectly normal, although that doesn't make it easier to overcome.
hey everyone, "just wandering back". in between classes to be honest. got an A in my last class. work still sucks, I still hate it. even though i get to do what i want for the most part. good example, i told them i could save them some money. they asked how? I said send me home. they did and i finished my project for school. so not really a day off.

have some new pics to post of Obe and I. Obe says tell everyone hello. he is doing great. I took him for his 6 month wellness exam last saturday. all went well with the visit. he is still in full coat. i thought about getting him cut down to roughly 4 inches. i figured it would be a little easier with school, work etc...I chickened out, cant do!

will post some new pics tomorrow afternoon. take care, hope all is well and talk to everyone later.
Personally I have had a hard time getting on OES.org Ron has been helping Today (in the middle of 2nd BIG snow storm ) I have been able to read and post (Ron is it true I am fixed :):) ) so I am enjoying it. Yep sometimes people get a bit snippy but I have made many great friends and it is cyberspace so I go with the flow Hopefully I can stay connected but for now I need to shovel some snow and let the canines of crazy acres out for some fun!!!
I agree that there are cliques, but that is just part of human nature. I think we all just do it naturally and as time evolves relationships deepen and you become more likely to respond to a friend.

There have been times I've been put off myself, heck, my breeder was topic of discussion on the board at one point. I've been very, very fortunate to have the breeder I have with the dogs I have. They are free from emotional/physical issues and are just a delight to have.

There are a lot of hot buttons on this forum but I just let it roll off. I don't take it to heart. Life is too short to get upset and hold a grudge.

As an aside, too, I have referred to myself as the "conversation killer". I tend to be one of the last posts at times. I just think I miss the train and respond too late at times.

Nope, sorry everyone, I own the conversation killer title. I am the queen of silence.
Can't let ya do it!!!
You are all wrong it's me
After christmas my mom had a heart attack, babette had a medical emergency over the last week and a half, spending 3 days in hospital too, I cracked a tooth and now have to go off to a othodontist surgeon to have it removed, when I crack one its not just the normal run of the mill have it extracted by a normal dentist.

Taking mom next week to hospital again for an angiogram, lifes pretty full on and hoping no more bad luck. Think we might be OK for awhile, 3 disastors so hopefully thats it for awhile.

Naahhhh :P Back one up the top, might be leaving a gap after the buggar comes out, implant $6000 for them to screw a falsey into the jaw. Where it is I will see what it looks like after, might have bridgework or just leave it as it is a friggin hole in the head

Must stop opening bottles with my teeth :P

If I was going to spend 6 grand then I would rather a boob job or plastic surgery of some kind not a friggin false tooth.

That is so awful and funny at the same time. Sorry bout the tooth though.
About the cliques, I've been here since the dawn of time it seems and I remember several years ago there was a post about the cliques being bad. So if there ARE cliques, they're nothing new.

I agree with what Jill said about snippy posters.

Lisa--I'm SO sorry about all the bad news for you. I'm sure it's looking up from here.
ditto. Lisa, sending lots of good vibes your way ...and energy.
I think many people, when they go through some tough times weither they are economical, medical or emotional, may have a tendancy to not "post" but just read what others have written. There are members that do feel comfortable "blogging" about a tough time they may be going though and feel comfort and support this forum brings them. Others may feel that telling others of their trials and tribulations may be "a bummer" so they keep their problems to themselves and don't participate in many of the conversations or start new threads. I do not blog too often but I do enjoy reading everyones threads and love looking at the pictures posted.

Lisa, I'm sorry about your Mom. I hope she gets better soon...also the tooth, ouch! So you're saying all bad things come in threes? I'm going to hold you to that.  Cross fingers your bout of bad luck is over.

I agree. I hope Mom, Babette and the snaggle tooth are all the bad luck coming your way, and that everyone has a speedy and painfree recovery!
Gee, I never noticed any clickish behavior...I post questoins and get answers and help. I never really noticed much clicky-ness. Sure some people seem to be more friendly and more personal with some others but so what...I think everyone needs to chill out and remember why we are all here...To talk about our mutual interest ( OES) and to ask questions and give advice for those who own our favorite breed. And remember, you are always your own person who doesn't have to heed the suggestions if you don't agree...
I think people take things too personally sometimes, it's hard to gauge a tone. In a group this size it's a given there will be subgroups or cliques. I read most of the posts but don't always respond as many times I have nothing to add 8O . I'm also going for the "if you can't say something nice say nothing" motto....sometimes my tongue bleeds and that's a mess! :D
hope lisa's tongue doesn't bleed when she gets her boob job, i mean new tooth. sheesh

   Will make my biological age 18 then with perkier boobs :P
Duh, I thought I was the conversation killer. I kept seeing me there as the last post. I much prefer Laurel's idea of it being having the last word

I guess this is a kind of metaphor for the stuff around clicks and being offended etc.

Quite a few of us perceived that we were the conversation killers so either there are lots of conversation killers or we're just being a tad paranoid. (I am including myself, so no offence intended).

And all it takes is to see it from a different perspective and its not a problem any more its a plus.

I dont know if there are cliques per say, I'd more call them special interest groups. :D To me it seems they've formed either over time, due to common interests, or due to common geography. As already mentioned we're human and that's what humans do - form groups. This forum is one - there are millions of people out there who think we are nuts for all hanging out and talking ad nauseum about sheep dogs on line. I personally cannot understand why they would think that!!

I dont always agree with everyone here, but hey I dont always agree with my hubby and its nearly 20 years later and I havent killed him yet. He even coped with me springing a sheepie puppy on him when he was away overseas for work. :D

I think the written word can be tricky too, sometimes things sound worse than they would if you spoke them so its easier to sound harsh. So I just go with the flow as someone else already mentioned. And I agree if I'm busy or stressed I often just check in and read rather than post.

I'm hoping hanging out here will give me a biological age of 18 and perkier boobs. :excited:

True but a snaggle tooth might pull that age right up again. ;)

I can't get the picture out of my mind of Lisa in dungarees, missing a tooth and chewing on piece of straw... huge boobs of course. LOL ::
