bathing and drying puppy
 First When you bath your pupper when they are babies how often? Then when you start clipping them You clip first? Then Bath? Ok then drying them what do you use? Does everyone have a doggie hair dryer or do you just use a blow dryer or air dry?   |

| I usually brush and then bathe. If you do the opposite, you'll find that any matts your dog has will be tougher to get out because the water seems to make the matt bind together.
I have a handsfree dog Dryer, the Oster 309. I could not be happier with the purchase. The dryer is quiet and lets out warm air so that it doesn't burn the skin. I would not recommend a human hand drier, it gets too hot. |
| When Heart was tiny....I would brush her, bathe her in the kitchen sink and blow her dry with my blow dryer. I bathed her as often as she needed, sometimes 2 baths in one week depending on how much rain we got and how much mud she got into!!!!!

If you are bathing, always brush out completely 1st - it will go a long way to preventing mats. The small tangles that would have been easy to brush out become like felt after they are wet in a bath. If you are clipping too, most do a brushout and fluff with brushes, combs, slickers (depends on your dogs coat texture and length), then do the trimming. Then bathe and dry with a dryer. Lastly do a retrim of any areas that stick out. If you need to use a human blow dryer, make sure it is on the cool setting. It will work to some extent, but it will take a lot more time and effort. |

I just love those pics!! So cute. I have been on a quest for a nice dryer but can't find one that is inexpensive. I suppose when he is little I won't need one right a way anyone have any suggestions on where to get a hair dryer for under 150.00???  Thanks |

ThanksWhen it came to all my grooming equipment, I figured the long run cost benefit. My drier cost me $450 with shipping. I was paying $60 per dog to have them groomed monthly. Add what I paid for my clippers, shears, different brushes, and shampoos. I spent a chunk of money. But if you factor that you buy the items and they last for a long period of time, you still make out better than the grooming cost of a professional groomer. I'd pay over $1600 in professional grooming for two dogs. |

But for a decent drying time and not a lot of cost, there are plenty of portables out there that will work nicely. Most who show bring these smaller dryers to shows and leave the big ones at home - but it is mostly spot bathing and fluffing being done at that point. |
