Have had my Ziggy boy for about 7 weeks and i noticed that every time i come in contact with his mouth/saliva i get so itchy and my hands will burn and turn red. Has anybody else experienced this? the faster I wash my hands, the better, but now i have really dry hands due to all the washing! hoping to outgrow this stage, any suggestions? |

I have never heard of that - and I was raised with dogs (sounds odd, lol) and done dog sports with other dog people my whole life, and also am a nurse.
A person can be allergic to anything though, so I'm sure it's possible. Sounds like you will need to go see your doctor. |
I had a friend who had a similar reaction however it was to horse saliva. He was fine petting the horse but after he fed her and she licked his palm the itching and watery eyes started. I think he touched his face after the hand was licked. |
I have heard of it but not often.
You might desensitise or you might have to consider seeing an allergist for the course of desensitising injections. Good luck, hope you desensitise on your own. |
Thank You Guys!
I do hope this goes away on its own! I had never heard of it,nor anyone with this! I'll keep you all posted. |
My understanding was that very many if not most people with "dog allergies" were actually allergic to the saliva. |
Quote: The major dog allergen, called Can f 1, is primarily found in dog saliva. Unlike cat allergen, which is found in the dander from sebaceous glands in the skin, the skin of dogs does not appear to be a major source of Can f 1. Dog albumin, a protein found in the blood, is also an important allergen, and may cross-react with albumin from other mammals, including cats.
