If bummed out means quiet and not as active it's normal for some dogs. Especially if it's her first season. Most of mine grow out of it after their first couple of seasons and just take it in stride, but some remain mopers. The moping usually doesn't last the entire time they're in season anyway. Maybe a week to ten days. More if you make a big deal out of it
Or did you mean bummed out in a different way? What is she doing? Kristine |
Kristine that is exactly what I meant she just doesn't want to play with me or the shi tzu and she is just not her sheepie self How long does the heat last ? And is a loose stool part of it? This is her 2nd heat and I don't recall the 1st one being like this one.... I feel so bad for her |
No, loose stools aren't part of it so maybe she has something else going on that is bringing her down?
Is she prone to loose stools? Does she get into things and eat unmentionables (hi, Sybil - <sigh>) I'd hate to tell you all was hunky dory and then it turns out that her being in season gets blamed for whatever really is going on. Though it may be nothing. Eating? Drinking? Peeing? All normal? How long has she been moping? When did she come into season? And how long has she had loose stool? No vomiting I presume, or you would have mentioned it. How long they're in varies, with my youngest girls trying to set a world record by pushing 4 weeks Or maybe it just seems that long. But three for sure with them. Belle was more like 2- 2 1/2 weeks. Mind you, with my youngest, their first heat was a piece of cake. Short, sweet, done, no big deal. Their second one they developed more mopiness. Well, Sybil, anyway. By their third, if memory serves, they were in class and just space cadets. And you couldn't look at them wrong but they'd all but burst into tears (well, you get my drift) Then it gradually got better. Now that they're 3 1/2 and have just gone through their 6th season which barely registered on the hormone scale. All bitches are different, so it's really hard to tell. I'd keep an eye on her, of course, but not panic about it. Give it a week or so and she should be back to her bouncy self. I forget how old she is, but I think old enough that her growth plates should have closed, so you would have done more than most to ensure that she had some benefits from the hormones she was given. If her mopiness and so on bothers you, consider spaying her in a couple-three months, i.e. in between seasons. Kristine |
Kristine thank u sooooo much.... great wisdom u have!
I am taking her to her vet today b/c she has a small lump above her eye and she keeps rubbing her face and scratching at it so I will ask all these questions but I did want to hear from u all to see what I was in for! She will be 2 on 2/18 so she is my baby!! |
I get loose stools when I'm on 'heat' Apparently it's normal for people. Get your baby girl to the vet anyway |
HAHA HA HAHAHAHAHAH AHHAHAHAH
^^^ I tell people that's how I know too. |
Oh Cassie that is too much information....ROFLMAO!!
My sheepie sails through her seasons, and so does the yorkie, but we are all different. xx |
ok so I had my bf take Holly to the vet while I was at work and it was a disaster!! Holly hid UNDER the bench in the waiting room and had to be seen there instead of the exam room ( which she has never acted like that before ) Granted the last time she was at the vets it was when I had to put Bear to sleep , but do you think she associated the vets office with Bear not coming home? Anyway she was so scared which I don't understand she wasn't always like this What should I do ? I try to take her out and socialize her and she usually is somewhat ok when she is with me how do I build her confidence back up so she is sure of herself?? Please any ideas ???? |
Breathe...
Vet's - not fun. Mom - not there. Don't think I want to be there either... Take her back a few times when there's nothing going on. Walk her in, say hi to the staff, have them give her some cookies, walk out. I don't know if she'd get the association with Bear not coming home but boy do these guys pick up on our grief, and I'm guessing you had some, you know? Plus she's probably extra emotional right about now. She'll be fine as long as you remain fine Kristine |
Kristine THANK U THANK U !!!!! I was beside myself and your right just BREATHE I wasn't there and she is emotional right now and I need to just tell the bf to go bang salt ! He made it sound like she was an idiot which really made me upset!!! Ok thanks for letting me vent and calming me down I'm sure my sheepie will be fine........ |
funny that just reminded me of the last time Marley was in heat and ended up at the vet's (I think she may have just been along for the ride for a Morgan visit) she practically backed out the door of the exam room on her belly. My vet got down on the floor and tried to play with her. He ended up prescribing some drugs to get her to relax |
I was so happy to get home last night and see Holly! She snuggled up to me in bed almost to say "Mom I had a bad day " The vet said the bump above her eye may just be a cyst and if it gets bigger I can have it removed if I want but it is nothing to worry about thank God. And her weight is 70lbs which I thought she weighed more than that! It feels like it when she thinks she is a lap dog and she climbs up in my lap
I really want to thank u ladies for helping me and keeping me sane |
