Anyway, when I was looking for a second dog, I met someone named Amy Popp at a dog show. She offered then [and another lady and i can't remember her name!] to help me with grooming, but time went by and then I felt it was too late to give them a call ...though Amy seemed very friendly and personable. Well after taking Yuki herding around her birthday, the OESCA Great Plains Reg Dir contacted me with more info on other herding places ...and other great info. Point: Recently he [Todd] contacted me again to give me some info and put me in touch with Amy. ...and she said she'd help me with some techniques if I brought kobee's to the next dog show in March!!!! I have been on cloud nine all day!!! Just the fact she'd take time to help me when she'll be busy at the dog show makes me thrilled. I've always heard people are always willing to help people interested, but my experience ...and I think I'm very good at reading folks... that has not been the impression left. Now... hopefully I can make it to the show!!! I have my fingers crossed!!! Mr. J and I committed to coaching baseball which starts next week, and I still don't know the schedule. I know it's one practice every week and a game on SATURDAY. Just thought I'd share my excitement with the only people who would understand. With my luck, I'll get the flu that weekend. |

Amy is great. She can appear tense at shows but it's actually her game face! Make sure you have him all brushed out and ready to go and don't expect too much before ring time!
I'm going to guess that the other lady was Lannie Williams? |
Wow That's fantastic!!
I totally know how you feel. I was so happy when Lisa promised to help me with grooming tips and could hardly wait. Then the first time I took Tiggy to Lisa's I decided I should take Tiggy for a nice run at the park so she would hopefully behave herself for Lisa. Tiggy found fox spoor and rolled in it. I had 15 mins to do a quickie clean up. She stunk!!!! Lisa was lovely and said it wasnt that bad, but it was! |

I'm going to guess that the other lady was Lannie Williams? That sounds right, but honestly I can't tell if I'm saying that b/c I've heard that name many times or b/c that was her. I still have her card, but I'd have to dig it up. Amy was my age, so it was real easy to chat with her the first time. I left telling Mr. J I could totally hang with her. Mim, that's hilarious about your first visit b/c I was thinking a walk in the park was an excellent idea. Why would have thunk? |
Grooming really is SO difficult to find detailed info on. I've searched the net for hours, probably days to find info. Of course the best things I have found have been on here. Carl's Line Grooming Essay, and there were a few vids once posted from Harrisburg Learn to Groom by Maxmm, I can't remember who actually posted them- definitely the best & most informative videos I've ever seen on grooming but I'm not sure if they are still on here.
It would be so, so awesome if someone put more up, even just showing the basics like brush technique. I think video footage is the best way to learn if you can't find anyone in person. |
Actually Jo - Sunday would probably be better on a weekend show (unless she is in a hurry to leave). There is less prep needed on our own dogs by the Sunday show, so more time and arm strength left to work with others on their dogs.
And yes, have him line brushed all the way through, nose to rear |
