Rudy is in the truck with his new daddy!!!!!

My husband has Rudy. He's just fine.

They had some dinner (okay, Rudy had some kibble) and went for a pee. Gordon's got them all loaded and they're going to drive about halfway back tonight. (I'd rather they wait until morning, but there's no arguing with a husband!)

I was so worried about keeping Rudy nice and warm and easing him into the snow. Well....

Rudy's first act of business in Minneapolis?

He rolled in the snow. He likes it.

Gordon says he's playful and happy and completely uninterested in getting into the truck.

He wants to play in the snow some more.

Fortunately, Gordon's pocket filled with cookies tipped the balance and Rudy is safely inside (and toasty warm).

They are heading home.

Rudy really is ours!

I am sooo happy this story has such a happy ending! God Bless you and your husband for giving Rudy such a loving home and for going through hell to get him home safe!

WELCOME HOME RUDY!!!!!!
Absolutely AWESOME! :cheer: I'll bet he'll help move that snow out of your driveway..............Once he finishes rolling and jumping into snowbanks you should be able to see pavement again  New home AND snow - Wow. Perfect!

I'm so happy for all of you. What a great way to start a new year

:hearts:

Whew...what an adventure!
He will be home soon!!!
Awesome!
I just got home from class - had to check in!

Good news that Rudy made it and I love that he is happy w/ the snow!!
I just called Gordon. They are approaching Grand Forks. He has, of course, decided to drive the rest of the way, so I'll see them in three or four hours.

Rudy is fast asleep in the back of the truck with....are you ready?....four paws in the air.

Now, even I must admit, that's a new one on me. Four paws in the air on the bed, sure, but in a moving vehicle?

He must be okay with all of this.

Go Rudy Go!
Congrats!! This will be such a long night & day of waiting for you..........

As a Manitobian, I have to ask - are you thinking about changing Rudy's name? Depending on his route home, how 'bout Emerson for his first Canadian stop??!!

In all seriouiness - congratulations & enjoy your newest family member!
Funny you should ask. My husband and I had thought our next puppy would be either Emerson or McGregor. We've had BRANDON, Portage, ThePas, and Hudson, so you can probably guess our naming rule. (Our middle names are famous scientists.)

When I asked Candy at the rescue about his name, she said she named him after the movie (I haven't seen it). She was so good to him, and we wanted to honour that.

So I scoured the internet, and looked for any connection to Manitoba. And, I found it. A tiny little area (classified as an "unorganized area" - whatever that means...) way up north. It's called Ruddock. From what I can tell only squirrels and caribou live there, but it fits our rules.

So, we are welcoming Ruddock Einstein into our family. Rudy for short.

I can make anything work!

(BRANDON was first, so no scientist middle name. All others were named in his honour, with MB places, so Portage Pavlov - he drooled at the sight of food, ThePas Darwin - a very sophisticated and highly evolved dog, had a separate, distinct cry for every need, communicated most effectively, and currently Hudson Galileo - ironically, spent most of his first year and a half under house arrest (crated when you couldn't keep both eyes on him). Each one grew into their middle names well.)

I can hardly wait to see how Rudy grows into the Einstein part.
He crossed the border. He is now an official Canuck.
So glad they are both safe. Hope they are soon with you. Tee Hee read it as OH had a wee as well!! Look forward to photos of your new pup xx
Yay!!! Waiting to see photos. :cheer: :clappurple:  :yay: :excited: :clappurple:

Love it!!!

So much for Rudy keeping him company (awake) for the drive home.
BTW - sounds just like Todd. Must be a guy thing w/ the drive straight through to home mentality.
Sleeping with all 4 feet/paws up in the air means they are ccompletley relaxed. He must know he's found his forever home :D
So, they arrived around two am. Rudy was wide awake and ready for action.

The dogs "met" in the driveway. They did great. One growl and lots of jumping and pouncing.

Rudy is wonderful, but part gazelle I am sure. I can see a little of his past history showing through. He doesn't quite seem to have the understanding of parts of a house down. When they played, Hudson stuck to the floor, couch, etc. Rudy found all surfaces equally jump on able. Thus, many things flew. No harm. We'll get it.

Rudy excitement dribbled while playing, and then ran to a corner and pooped (no biggie...I expected some issues). While I was over trying to redirect him, Hudson threw up. So now everyone here knows everything about everyone else. We don't stand on ceremony here.

The dogs were hyper, and we were dead tired. Convincing them it was sleepytime was not easy. I don't thinkRudy's had much experience sleeping in a pack in the bedroom so we set up his crate. (I have NEVER seen a crate that big. It's apparently a 700 model...700 being the approximate square footage.)

He went in with only a little complaining. The only issue right now is he growls at Hudson if he goes near the crate while Rudy's in it. I'm sure we'll figure it all out. We'd like Rudy to sleep "free" in the bedroom, but that will simply take time I guess. With his mobile home parked in the bedroom there's no way to walk across the floor, so we're climbing across the bed. Such is life.

Cutest Rudyism?

He doesn't quite seem to understand stairs. (Maybe he's always been in a bungalo?) He's been a trooper about it, but our one staircase inside only has eight steps but they are open back, suspended ones, so he's quite funny to watch. He'll do them, but doesn't quite have that graceful rhythm thing going on yet.

All three of my boys are sleeping, and I wanted to slip out for a shower quickly, so I have to run. It's going to be a high energy, crazy day I'm sure.
Throwing up AND poop in the house? Sounds about right to me
Oh what fun! So happy he made it. I was watching the other post. I just happened to see you started a new one. I am so glad he made it.
So happy everyone is home all safe and sound :yay: :yay: :yay: :hearts:
yay!! My Rudie is happy to have another Rudy on board :)

Can't wait for all the stories and pictures.
Congrats on getting Rudy home. Sounds like he's going to fit in.
I just noticed this thread - SOOOOOO HAPPY FOR YOU AND RUDY!!!
Yes photos please. give him big kisses!
Pictures PLEASE!!
I have uploaded eight pix from last night/this morning. I'll do another batch later. He NEVER stops moving.

Hudson completely collapsed around two pm. He's done. Rudy poked at him but he won't wake up.

They are doing great. I'm exhausted watching, so it's nap time now for all. I'll try to get better pix, but when you try to focus on Rudy he runs by so fast all you get are bumshots. (And his bum is especially cute. He's got a little tail, trimmed into a little puff...)

We are so happy with him (except Hudson. He mostly loves him, but right now just needs a SERIOUS NAP.)
Saw the pics.

OMG they are adorable!!! I think he will fit in perfectly! Congrats!

Sheepdogs are just so cute, the more the better! :)
He looks SO happy!
About Hudson needing a nap, it's funny, it reminds me of Lola and Lily. We got Lola because we felt Lily(the golden) needed a playmate. She was driving us and the little dogs crazy. Enter Lola. Now Lily is the MELLOWEST dog you have EVER seen. After a while we thought maybe Lily's personality had just changed. When Lola got sick for a while, Lily was nutty again. That sheepie just plum tuckers her out! Of course the downside is that now we have LOLA driving us nuts. :excited:
How Fun! Rudy is adorable and looks like a very happy boy!
Congratulations!
Good. I'm glad that it all worked out well in the end. :)
I love the nubby bum. It looks like they've made friends quickly.
Wee, barf, and 'do - sounds like he has already made himself at home and has settled in nicely. He is just the cutest thing and a great addition to the family. Congratulations and thanks for a great saga with a very happy, if not exhausting, ending. :D
Love the stubbie.....Mo has one as well. This way you'll be able to easily tell bums apart!
The pictures are perfect!  They show two super-happy sheepies - what could be better?? :clappurple:  :go: :clappurple:  :go: :clappurple:  :go: :clappurple:  :go:
I am so happy for all of you! Rudy looks likes he LOVES his new family! The pictures say it all! :ghug: :hearts:
The photo of him play bowing is sooo cute. :D
He is adorable. Have fun!
:D :D :aww:
I'm so happy for you guys!!!!!!!!! :cheer: :cheer: :cheer: :cheer: :cheer:
He is adorable and I love a house with two sheepies! It's so much more fun! Welcome to Rudy!!!!!!

I love the tail puff Laika has one; it actually wiggles.
so how are they doing what a cut bum he has
We're all doing great.

Rudy has finally managed to handle the stairs. It's not elegant, but he's starting to get the hang of it. He's not falling down them (or up them, which looked even funnier) anymore.

We've had some success going outside, but he's averaged two indoor pees a day. Not the end of the world, and I'm sure we'll get there.

He saw his new vet yesterday and it was a resounding success. He didn't want to go into the building at first (I don't know if he understands that he won't be left behind anymore...he's been through a lot of changes). Our vet thinks Rudy's actually a little younger than we believed. He says he'd bet he's closer to a year than a year and a half. When they first met the vet sat in his chair and greeted Rudy. Rudy came over and gently put his paws up around his neck and "hugged" him.

It was really sweet.

So he checks out just fine, and got many compliments on his wonderful disposition and kind personality. My mother came with us, and it was Rudy's first time meeting Grandma. They have definitely bonded already.

Things are going great.

And, in other news, someone came and cleared my driveway yesterday. Lovely fellow. Brought his sister along. Wanted about half of what breakdown guy asked for and apologized for that. It's forty bucks for the first hour, and they don't charge less than that. They only needed forty five minutes. I happily paid it and threw in two Starbucks cards so he and his sister could get a nice, warm beverage of their choice. They even came to the door, introduced themselves, took off their gloves, and shook my hand.

It was a very positive experience, compared to breakdown guy from a few nights ago.
I love the pictures~~~ They are both so cute together!!!! :D :D :D
Sounds like you are making good progress. :D
Those stairs are a common issue w/ dogs. The site I had classes at 25 years ago had those stairs up to the 3rd floor - and that was the 1st hurdle for all the new dogs! 8O The 1st night there were lots of late dogs - especially the ones too big to be carried!

Nice he bonded w/ the vet, and grandma :D

And so glad you had "normal" people plow the driveway. 8)
It is so good all is going so well. Rudy is a doll. Love the pics of the two sheepies together, friends. Keep us posted on Rudy's progress.
not to many stairs in fla must be so much fun in the snow
