Chris Christensen Brush?

Has any one tried a Chris Christensen Brush they have a great sales pitch, they say it deosn't scatch like other brushes, but cost $37 anybody ever used one? I tried the test with my hindes and sure enough it scatched my skin. THey seem to have a good line of shampoos etc. also.

I've never tried it, but I do think it is one of the better ones. There is no need for the inflated price just for a name though, the other high quality brands are double the price of one found in just any old pet store, but they are worth the money. They usually range 20-25 dollars.
Roger's Dad,

Chris Christensen advertises their brushes to have the most supple pads of all brushes. Combine this with long pins and while their tips are "non-scratching" these brushes are not sufficiently robust for an OES Coat. They are far more suitable for the soft silky hair of Afghan Hounds, Borzois etc.
And as Willowsprite has made note they have an extremely premium price.

For an OES coat I continue to recommend the hindes 6060 brush or the #1 All Systems black pad long pin pin brush BR 702. I'm becomeing more comfortable with this All Systems brush over the last few weeks. The longer pins and black pad give a nice deep grooming and the pad is sufficiently firm to keep the pins standing during even when brushing very tight areas. Just be a little more gentle when using this brush.

Cheers

Carl
Sorry Carl, but most of the OES people that I met so far that show in the Northeastern US at the last dog show use Chris Christianson's pin brushes. Plus they are guaranteed for life (not sure if that includes a dog chewing it...) I actually love the brushes, very substantial.

Wow, a guarantee like that is well worth the investment.....
How about the tips of the #1 do they scatch the skin, if you brush it down your arm? The Hindes does but not to bad. I generally brush Roger daily so the smoothness / comfort of the tip is attractive.
As I mentioned in another post, I love the Hindes that Carl recommended. After a few strokes of brushing Abby I checked her skin and I did not notice any scratches, but the pins got all the way through her coat. I continued to brush her for a few minutes and had to answer the phone. Abby kept following me around and would lie down to be brushed. I take it that the pins are not uncomfortable to her. She enjoys it completely.
If you use a brush and notice that your dog is uncomfortable I would immediately stop using it. It may be that some dogs are more sensitve than others just like people, my husband loves to have his back scratched and I can't stand to have mine touched. Our pups may have a preference too.

Just my humble opinion,
The #1 Chris Christensen that I have, the ends of the pins are kind of rounded. Never seems to bother Frank when I brush him with it. I don't use it on the ends of his paws or his muzzle though. I brush the ends of his feet with a really good quality slicker (DoggyMan) and for his muzzle I use a comb with big teeth. Just make sure you groom gently and you don't have to worry about undercoat coming out with any of the better brushes.

Updated report: Because money grows on trees in Florida (must be the weather) I have ordered the Chris Christensen Brush, there are 2 kinds the soft pad one is the gold pin and the 35 mm (about 1 3/8 inches) pin length is for backcombing. The one they recommended for the OES is the regular steel colored pin at 27 mm (about 1 inch) and is supposed to be stiff enough to get the job done. And it cost $23.00. I also ordered some of the shampoo and conditioning products, I will let everyone know how they work.
Absolutely without a doubt the best investment you'll make for grooming an oes RD!

Great choice.

Hi again,

The guaranteed is that the needles don't drop into the pad and the pad doesn't come out. It doesn't cover dropping it or other abuse that cause the pins to retreat or other damage to it.

The gold models just have more needles. I think the added needles are worth the money. They don't cover everything you need. You still need long teeth combs and strippers and slicker brushes.

Again good choice and models and brushes. You'll be glad you have them both.

Hi Roger,

I just looked into the Hindes brushes that Carl & Caullet talked about, I had never seem them. They look pretty neat. Thanks you guys, I'll try them the next time I need one. Since mine always seem to get chewed up it'll probably be very soon.

Thanks again for the info.

Zach
My report:
I just got the silver pin Chris Christensen brush with 25 mm or 1 inch pins. It is stiffer than the orange pad Hindes and the tips don't scratch my arm like the Hindes. The scatches the Hindes make are just little white lines on the skin but the CC brush does not make them. As I mentioned I have a money tree in my backyard so I also ordered the White on white shampoo, the regular shampoo, the protein treatment, the after bath and a product called Ice on Ice. The whole system. I really like the Ice on Ice it is a detangler and It worked like nothing I have ever tried I reccommend it without reservation. The rest of the products were very good but I need to evaluate the long term effect before giving an opinion.
I use them all the time. They are well worth the extra money!
