Then I saw Judy's success with Harry (who spends much more time in public than my crew). He looked terrific! So I imposed on Bette to tell me how she does the lamb cut on her girl and unpacked my clippers. Miss Ellie was my first victim, err uhhh, subject. The divine Ms. E is a very petite girl with an extremely thick lush coat. Problem is when she starts to grow out, she begins to look like a fluffy over stuffed sausage. She's just too tiny to sport that beautiful full sheepie coat. Ellie with3"-5" coat Ellie with my untrained version of a lamb cut Seeing her today in full light, I have a lot of practicing to do. Thanks Judy and Harry for getting me off the dime. |

Great job!!
Ms Ellie looks fantastic. |
Ellie looks great!
The joy of doing it yourself is more than the money saved, it's great fun to sculpt away and make your dog have the look YOU like, not what some groomer thinks your dog should look like! |
She looks great. when i am feeling better i willpost a picture of poor morgan. i took scissors to him last night to get off his very thick long coat to match his surgical shaves. the plan we to finish cutting off all his hair and then use the shears since I was sure he was a matted mess - I couldn't groom him for a month with his open wounds.
Well - he has a reverse lion cut, I ended up in the ER with a stomach thing last night before finishing him and don't at all feel like finishing him..... |
She looks great! What number clipper did you use? |

#4 blade on the back & sides. However, it's still winter here and I didn't want her cut as close as the blade is meant to. I used my pinky finger as a guide to keep the blade elevated about 1/2 inch so she is longer than normal. #10 blade with 1/4 inch attachment on the legs starting a couple inches below the hip bone. Same configuration for the chest, mane, and neck. It's more defined and much cuter when the back and side are cut to the blade length. Bette's dog is adorable with the cut. She says it a great cut for her agility/rally sheepie. |
She looks very nice, super huggable.. well done!!! |
Good job, she looks good. And you are right. She does look like a sausage before her trim. Then she looks all svelte. |
She looks Wonderful Great Job.... What size blade did you use? |
She looks adorable.
I had to laugh at you using your finger to keep the blade elevated - that takes more coordination then I possess. Dawn is right with the comment about groomers having their own idea about what your dog should look like. |
Wow! She looks great! you're much braver than I am.. I cringe every time I have to give Inca a trim, nevermind a full cut! good job! |
Good job!!! Having that great coat really helps. All clean, fluffy, she looks darling. Yeah, she's got short legs and bigger body, you don't want a mobile hairy sausage. She's darling. |

Ellie with3"-5" coat Ellie with my untrained version of a lamb cut Nice job!!!! She looks so much happier short. She has a kind of eyore thing going for her in her sausage state... Do you recall if her dam's call name could have been Annika by chance...? Well, even if you can't remember, I'm sure you know her birthdate and I can probably figure it out if you're interested. Sorry, pedigree obsessions shining through. Honestly, you did a very nice job. You should see what mine turn out looking like and it's not as if it's my first try! Oh, and btw, it's not her size that makes her look like a sausage in coat so much as the fact that her leg coat is shorter than her body coat. If you look at her shaved you see she actually has pretty decent proportions and a lot more leg than you would have thunk, eh? And so, if you ever want to grow her out yet not have people inexplicably thinking about lunch when they see her , you need to talk to Sunny (Lucali) and Dawn, and Lisa etc on the fine art of growing leg coat on an active sheepdog. Or just shave her back. It really is a perfect length. Bette's right on target: still looks like a sheepdog, but with minimal grooming requirements. Kristine |

I felt like such a bad mom after admitting I hadn't replaced Ellie's lost records, I spent time rectifying that this week. Ellie looks, moves, barks, and acts exactly like her mom, it was strange to see them side by side once Ellie was grown. The only difference is Ellie is smaller than Annika. Joyce asked if I would like to adopt Annika a couple years ago. I regret no doing it. The lamb cut leaves the leg hair longer than the body hair. I might let her grow out a bit to see if I can manage the right proportions and eliminate the sausage syndrome. |

Well, hang on to your hat, sister, because Annika is Sybil & Chewie & Martha & Che and Macy's sire's (Luke) half sister (they have the same dam). Which I believe makes my crew Ellie's cousins. I'm so sorry Anything strike you as interesting? Ellie: Sybil: Joyce imported Luke and Annika to add to her breeding program. She & Linda were kind enough to let me breed to Luke. My vet fell in love with him when I brought him out to breed to Mad and later went back to Joyce and asked her if he could live with her. Different style dog than we're used to here, but a good choice to open up some tight pedigrees and his temperament is to die for. I gather Annika's is the same because my vet fell in love with her too. And all of my kids were surprisingly uniformly on the smaller end of the standard which is where I like them for performance purposes. Luke is a nice size but a lot of the European lines are oversized for my taste and lifestyle so I was pleasantly surprised that we didn't end up with big, unwieldy dogs that couldn't do an honest day's work. I'll be talking to Linda Ruelle shortly and will have to put a bug in her ear about this. She'll get such a kick out of the "cousins "electronically meeting up Oh, and Bette's Cha Cha goes back to Swinger too. She's Mad's and (Sunny's) Luca's sister. Mad being Sybil et al's dam. (Sings a few choruses of "It's a Small World After All" ) Kristine |
very funny - pictures. I usually delete those poses from my camera....lol
Guess I should have been saving them for family tree comparison purposes I was wondering about the Annika lead - struck me as going somewhere, with Luke and Chewie... That is pretty cool! |

Ellie: Sybil: Kristine Wow, it appears the Eyore gene runs deep in the line! I love everything about the WW dogs, especially the compact size. I was chatting with a gentleman that worked his dogs on a ranch. When he saw Ellie and Buffett he said it had been a long time since he had seen a sheepdog that had an efficient build. I was clueless so I embarrassed myself and asked what the heck he was talking about. His opinion was the more compact Sheepdogs were able to cover ground more effectively and had more stamina. I don't know if that's true or just an opinion. I just like the size. I believe I met Luke when he was still very young. I noticed a beautiful male in Joyces grooming room and commented on him. She said he was brought into the line from the UK to help diversify the line. He was about 18 months old and a beauty. I think that was in 2004. |
