Grooming 101 - Harry's first puppy cut by me

The last time I took Harry for a puppy cut they butchered his paws so badly I thought "Well I could have done that!" ..... and for a lot less money.

So after consulting with a few people on this forum and some local "experts" at the stores where I made my purchases, I took the plunge.

Thanks to all of you who gave me such great advice. He is not perfect (don't look at him in the light  ) but I am satisfied with the outcome. Of course, I will be following him around with the scissors for the next week clipping stray hairs.

He is about 2 1/2" all over.

Here is the before picture followed by the after:

And just for fun - a picture of what Harry does whenever he realizes it is grooming time. It is nice to have a dog who doesn't hide over grooming:

He does look great. Just purchase clippers and want to do a cut like Harry. I just haven't gotten the courage to take clipper to coat yet.
Harry looks fantastic!!
Great job.
Great job! :clappurple:
WELL DONE !!!! he looks fabulous  :clappurple:
Hey, I want some credit!

She called me while I was at the hardware store to ask for suggestions on tools. Based on my infinite & vast grooming wisdom, I gave her my best advice: contact Sunny!

I'm pretty sure she hasn't had a chance to do that yet, so she can take all of her own bows.

He looks great, Judi.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that she DID talk to Sunny!!!!! BUT....Judi did the actual trimming ((unless she talked Sunny into coming to St. Louis.....    ))
Yes I did talk to Sunny. Plus invaluable advice from Jill and Nita as well. They took the time to give me a lot of tips and I felt a little smarter when I went to purchase my clippers and blades.

I went to a local pet store that has been there for over 50 years. The groomer came out from the back to talk to me about the trimmer and how to use it. She did not rush me and really took the time to show me how to attach the blades and what kind of blades would be best for him given what length cut I was looking to give Harry. I paid a little more for the clipper then I would have had I just gone home and ordered the same item online but I appreciated the time they gave me. I also called them back after talking to Sunny and another groomer took the time to look for the greyhound comb Sunny had suggested.

At the advice of a Petsmart groomer over the phone I discovered a sixty year old Barber & Beauty Supply store to buy my blades and have them sharpened. The gentleman there took time with me as well.

It really was nice to have so many people helping me as I marched into this armed with no skills. I was actually nervous as I ran the clipper down his back the first stroke.

My favorite new trick I learned from all the input came from Sunny: put a cooler under him when he is on the grooming table to keep him in a standing position.

Of course he kept lifting his leg to climb over it.

He should probably get some kudos for putting up with my ineptitude once again yet still doling out kisses during the bath, the "scary" dryer and three days of brushing, clipping and trimming.

Also thanks for all of the nice comments from everyone about the outcome.

Yep - ditto from me :D
I think Judi did such a fantanstic job!!!! I can't wait until she 'does' Heart....... :hearts: :hearts: :hearts:

I have printed up an agreement for Judi to take Heart for 1 week in the spring. She can trim her down, and then spend the remaining time following her around snipping the whispies.

I will pick her up and she will be perfect~~~~~

A disclaimer about her brasierres will be included in the contract as I cannot be held responsible for her (Heart's ) fettish.

I will be sending it express mail signature requested...SHHHHhhhhhh!!! PLEASE don't let her know!!! I want it to be a surprise!!!!!
