Depends on the type of coat they have. At puppy stage the hair pretty much goes it's own way anyway. As adults, most of them can be brushed in the correct direction. José has a very harsh, correct coat. As he is growing back into a show coat I constantly am brushing his muzzle coat down so he can see, just to have it spring right back up. Once it gets long enough I can tie it up & off to the sides. |
I remember that stage
We just waited until it grew, it doesn't take long. I guess you could smooth it down with water but that wouldn't last long. When is gets longer, it stays down easier. |

If you're not showing you could just trim it....
One of my pups has his hair trimmed near his eyes but is still in full coat |
