Is the normal for two sheepies to team up and work together? I bet it is Gigi's idea and Bogey just follows. |

It sounds to me like Gigi and Bogey could be hired by their doggie daycare! They must really make a good team!
I hope that you will be feeling better soon and off your crutches. |
Tonks and Luna do it ALL the time, at both Day care and the park. They even try to do it to the cats here at home. When we did Agility, Luna only liked it if she could run the course with Tonks. My girls a quite the team; I'd be surprised if other pairs of sheepies weren't as well! |
my two tried it when they were young. I had a good relationship with the daycare and they helped as we worked to break them of the bullying - it isn't really herding which is a directed cooperative behavior with a person.
Remeber herding is an extension of the prey behavior and allowing this type of behavior to go unchecked can end up with altercations with other dogs. |
Chewie and Simon (basset) did this on the few times we went to the dog park near us. That was always when I knew it was time to leave.
Chewie would get in the herding bark mode, and Simon....being a basset I swear the bark is hardwired in with the legs! When the legs move, the mouth barks. I feared for the hearing of the dog they were herding. |

Bogey and Gigi are home today. Not easy for me but I wanted them home. I will inform the daycare not to allow them to "herd." Neither are aggresive. They play well with others. But will have this stopped. Thanks |
Same with my two....They do it as well.... |
Had a Sheepie meet up with a fellow OES owner here in N Virginia and the two playfully herded the other dogs in the dog park. Nothing aggressive and both displayed play behavior during and after. It was like they were moving all the other dogs closer together so they could run around and play with them. Winnie does this occassionally at doggy day care and the very well trained, attentive staff there don't see it as a problem. Hmm. |
