New xrays

Frankies going for new shoulder xrays Sunday. We are hoping his ocd has gotten better. I don't want him to have to go thru all of the surgeries.

Wish us luck.

Good luck. Hoping for great results.
Hi everyone:

We are back from the vet and news is not so good.

Frankies shoulders have both gotten worse. When the vet manipulated his left shoulder he really cried. I really hate it when they have to do that to him. His left bothers him more than his right and the right one is the worse. So he wants to do the left one first, since it bothers him more.

We are scheduled for surgery on Februay 18th. It takes 2-10 days for recovery which doesn't seem to bad. Then in March we'll do the other one. He said get it taken care of in the winter then when it's really nice out and the dog wants to go out and really play its ok. (He obviously doesn't know sheepies and the snow   )

Thats where we stand for now. Hopefully things don't change.

Unfortunately there is really no alternative to fixing OCD other then surgery.

oesmom2 girl Gigi had it in both shoulders and was operated on by scope surgery with both sides of the shoulders done at the same time.
Healing time was faster too as just small incisions to remove the offending pieces of cartiledge.

Might be a good idea to PM oesmom2 and speak to her

Any reason the vet has not opted to do both at the same time, have not heard with OCD in both sides doing one side then the other later, usually they fix it both sides straight away in the same surgery. Better for them and recovery time then no reason they have to go through it all again in a few months doing the other side.

Just a thought there to maybe being better to get it all over and done with in one procedure.

Also if your dog is still on Puppy food switch to an adult brand as you dont want to encourage any more excellerated growth, OCD is linked to rapid growth in large breeds, hereditry or trauma. So if on a pup food time to change over. OCD affects larger breeds and usually shows it signs from 6 to 12 months of age, during the rapid growth period, most common time for this to flare is around the 8 month mark.

Best wishes with the surgery and your baby will be back to normal and all bouncy again after and painfree.
I agree with the idea of doing both at one time. Anesthesia is always a risk and if you can cut it down to one session the better for the dog and your pocketbook. Definitely bring up the issue with your vet. Hopfully they will see that it is in your pups and purse's best interest. :D
that is my birthday so i will pray surgery goes well .. my derby had both done at the same time i think it is easier on you and the dog good luck
The vet doesn't want to do both because of his hip dysplasia. They don't want him to have to put so much pressure on his hips. We did ask if he would do both at the same time, but he just didn't think it was a good idea.

Thanks for everyones thoughts
