You'll be getting a 6 week trial of insurance from Pet Secure, I activate it when your puppy leaves.
They operate under a different name in the US so I'm not actually sure how useful it would be but they'll send you all the info to look over anyway. http://www.petsecure.com/ US http://www.petinsurance.com/ |
Stacey- the 6 week free trial cannot be used for puppies destined for the US or any other country for that matter. I did call them as I have many of my puppies in the US and unfortunately it is not offered to them through our CKC plan. |
I thought that too, wasn't sure. The pups I've had go to the states were to people who weren't interested in the insurance anyway, most people aren't. |
I never was, but I was told that it's a lot better here in the states than it used to be and after just paying 11 thousand dollars to vets for Zak's treatment- I figured I would research it. |
Ouch... that was a very big medical bill.
Just read the terms carefully and understand that preexisting conditions will be excluded and may make obtaining coverage impossible. Sometimes people feel they get cheated if insurance doesn't cover something but it's often outlined right in the policy. If you don't use it, you'll see it as money wasted... if you need it, you'll view it as a good investment. It's always a gamble. The AKC has a good plan http://www.akcpethealthcare.com but it doesn't cover congenital conditions like hip dysplasia. We've collected thousands for Emma and Darby. You can fax in your claim forms and bills which is convenient. Embrace has a policy we've collected on toohttp://www.embracepetinsurance.com ... price is based on the coverage you opt to receive. This is a policy that does cover congenital conditions (see terms) but I believe it can be canceled. You can fax in your claim forms and bills. We're testing this policy now on Bumble's allergy testing. You might also check into PetFirst Healthcare that can be found on Petfinder http://www.petfirsthealthcare.com or the ASPCA policy http://www.aspcapetinsurance.com/?utm_id=2100 . I carry the ASPCA accident policies on Kaytee and Panda because they're uninsurable for health coverage but it will cover a blind dog and dysplastic dog for accidents. Best wishes- Jaci |
I was just saying the other day that Morgan is the type of dog I should have insurance on - too late now. But i wonder if what I would have spent on premiums on the other three would have offset anysavings I would see from coverage for him |

Just following up and sharing some differences in insurance policies we've actually used- Bumble had dermal and blood allergy testing in December. http://oesusa.com/Page244.html Poor boy is so itchy. We're into week 6 of a food trial, he's wearing altered turtleneck shirts to protect his skin (the dude now has a wardrobe ) and occasionally socks, weekly Hexadene baths, my husband has stopped using before/aftershave and we've gone to homemade laundry detergent http://www.thefamilyhomestead.com/laundrysoap.htm (with goat's milk sensitive skin soap instead) in an effort to try to figure out what's causing the itch. Though the itching remains, the seborrhea has cleared up and the sores/bumps have too... the skin is still a little off on the back of his hocks. The shirts and gold Listerine/Ox-E drop solution we spray on him to sooth the itch along with the antihistamines are probably the reason we've been able to avoid any further use of antibiotics and haven't had to opt for steroids. http://oesusa.com/index.1012.jpg http://oesusa.com/Bumble-012410.jpg Anyway, the dermal and blood tests cost $681.31. His Embrace policy paid $545.05... we had selected a 20% co-pay and a unique option of continued care. After the first year, this policy will cover up to $2,500 per year for this condition from the 2nd year on... 1/4 of the annual maximum benefit of $10,000. With Emma and Darby's policies through the AKC, there's a maximum lifetime benefit of $3,000 for a condition which Darby has already met. Then too, the premium on that policy is less than the Embrace policy. The Embrace policy does not cover prescription food... Bumble's is $83 per large bag of Hill's z/d Ultra. Meesha and Maggie's policy through 24 Hour Pet Insurance reimburses 25% of a prescription diet. But pay limits on that policy are per system affected, not per condition. There are important differences you need to weigh when selecting a policy... balancing the premium with the benefits a plan offers. For us, insurance has been a good choice. |
We have the plan under the AKC. I think its pet partners. I think they offer a free trial for any puppy you register with them. They offer different levels of coverage for different annual premiums. we are very happy with them and ahve been reimbursed thousands this past year ( well 2009 ) . I find they don't nicke and dime you with all sorts of co pay, etc. Very happy with the plan they timely payments. |

Yes! That's how we started coverage for Emma and Darby back in 2004... through the free trial that came with their registration. Easy claim forms that can be faxed in too. It's paid well. |
