Need # for BLA

Anyone have the toll-free number for Butt Lickers Anonymous? I have a sheepdog that needs an intervention.

In all seriousness, what is up with butt licking? There is nothing back there. No mats or snarles that could pull. No scrapes, cuts, bumps, or rashes that would irritate. No funny dingle-dangles, smells (out of the ordinary), or discharge from the cave.

So why does my sheepdog lick her butt ALL the time?

Anal gland problem, maybe? You would notice the smell if they expressed...but maybe they aren't expressing and that is why the licking??
Whenever Maggie starts chomping on her butt, it usually means her anal gland is not expressing properly. She has one that is too flaccid so this is a recurring issue for her.
^^^^^^
Same with my dalmo one impacts regularly. The only way I know about it is cause he starts licking his butt obsessively.
Anal glands is a good suspect!

I guess a trip to the vet is in order. S/he can show you how to properly express them on your own, if you dare.

ROTF...sorry, couldn't help it.
People have been telling me anal glands since I got yuki. it's 100% NOT anal glands for her, so "if" anal glands doesn't solve the problem then you may actually be able to join the club yuki's already in. She's chewed/chews on it so much that there's something growing now b/c it's so numb. Some have suggested the stub wasn't cut correctly so it irritates her. She has done it so much that she immediately goes to it when we leave w/o her [and she feels she should have come].
Jack wants to join too! He eats the hair guarding his butt. Wether to remove the hair blocking direct access, he's Mr. Slobber Butt if the hair gets too long. When in short hair, he doesn't go diving. I've tried expressing the glands, nothing. So for him I suspect nervous habit and he hates long hair blocking his cleaning sessions.

Same with Lucy! She has a tail though, so it's not a docking problem for her. Our vet can't find anything wrong with her, so he thinks it out of boredom.

That is too funny - poor thing.
It's also an excitement thing for Maggie. When we say "want to go for a truck ride?" she sits, wiggles her nub and then CHOMP CHOMP CHOMP! "want a moo-stick?" CHOMP CHOMP CHOMP! "want to go outside?" CHOMP CHOMP CHOMP!

Because this isn't something that is new, would I be a bad mommy to wait to see the vet until something else happens? Would our groomer be able to tell anything? She gets trimmed in 2 weeks.

hehehe..... glad we aren't the only ones that are desperate for a 'butt-licking' intervention.....
