That reads to me as: "You can use the three year vaccine, but your dog will still need to be vaccinated every year. "
Unless they can issue licenses in the subsequent years based on previous vaccinations. But that's a really difficult concept to regulate, somim thinking my first paragraph is what was meant. |
After rereading that for the fifth time, I'm uncertain as to the intent. Is the law referring to the dog license independently from the rabies vaccination? |
Ron,
I called Dr. Hager this morning and he said that a dog only needs to be "currently vaccinated" in order to be licensed every year. They do not need to have a rabies vaccine every year in order to be licensed annually. Kris |
This has caused confusion at our vets office. The vets have the records and have to be contacted for verification from groomers--doggy day care etc. My vet will vaccinate for three years--but the license says one year and they are not issued again until the next vaccination. |
If your vet is vaccinating with a 3 year rabies vaccine, then you should receive a 3 year rabies certificate. You can bring that when you go to the groomers, if you don't have one, call and get one from your vet and ask for a copy of your dog's medical records at the same time. |
