Only errant thought I keep having is regarding antibiotics. She came back a litle roughed up by the stud and was given antibiotics (co-owners brought her in for me). Perhaps the wrong antibiotics were given and she lost the litter early??? Any thoughts? First time she was bred cervical a.i. w/older male(10 & unproven). No pregnancy. Second time she was surgically a.i.'d with stuff from same male (almost 11 at this point). This time she was covered naturally for three weeks (day 7 on) by a 6 year old proven stud. I thought we were expecting for sure! Any thoughts are appreciated! She tested neg. for brucellosis before I ever bred her and as it was a.i. the first two times I know we don't have to worry about that stud. |

I'm sorry for you. She is not a breeder....for what ever reason. We assume her tubes aren't blocked, her hormone levels are correct....too many maybes.........We assume the younger stud had been successful in the past.
For sure some fence jumpin' stud would cover her successfully and you'd have some hideous cross...probably 12 of them. |
I've been thru similar situations more than once with more than 1 dog. Probably my most crushing one was my Mariah. My "dream litter" was puppies out of her & my Isaac. We went out to breed to get her. She was a singleton, beautiful, bone to die for, temperment to die for, all her clearances including OFA excellent hips....I could go on & on. She had everything we wanted to use in our breeding program. We bred her 4 times to males that were proven & tested. Natural breedings, trancervical breedings with freesh semen & stud dog present etc. She had been tested for everything. NEVER any puppies any of the 4 times. By this time she was going on 5 years of age & we didn't want her having her first litter at 5. We decided to have her spayed & in doing so my vet discovered she had a condition called mucometria. She had conceived each time but her uterus produced too much mucuous for the fertilized eggs to be able to attach themselves & grow. At the time it was a condition that you only knew about once the spay was done. So I feel for you & I know what you are going thru. |
It is very disappointing! Esp. as her health clearances are all wonderful! Oh well...I think you are right - if she were to get loose, we'd wind up with 20 Heinz 57 mixes (not that there is anything wrong with mixed dogs, I just don't want to help add to them).
My 3 yr. old son was so upset when we saw the x-rays that he started sobbing. First b/c he knows that Sidney only gets to stay extended periods of time with us when prego/with puppies (only way animal control is tolerant of our #s) and secondly b/c he was sure she was having puppies and wanted to count the skulls on the x-ray. He has been super-mopey since we brought her back down to the co-owner's house. They are upset as well. We were all sure of this litter and they have been dreaming of an additional OES for their granddaughter while I have been dreaming of my (hopefully) show-worthy puppy. I have lists of potential names as I register all the pups in my name before selling them. Then, unless otherwise worked out, the names gets transferred to the owner either upon spay/neuter or health clearances. I didn't want to go the route of limited registration and keep puppies from conformation so this seemed like a decent way to do it. Ah, well. Ever the optimist, I think we might try one more time. Anyone stud out a dog w/o a payment if there is a missed pregnancy? LOL It is a good thing I don't gamble! With the way my luck has gone with Sidney, I'd lose my shirt for sure! |
