I felt a lump under his skin between his chest & belly on the left side. It is soft and kinda moves around. The vet said it was a fatty tumor, that the are benign, and we just need to monitor it. She said it was very common for dogs to get them. I feel a little better knowing what it is but it's a reminder that he is getting older (he'll be 6 in March). |

My two oes are fatty tumor kids, on the chest. Jack has two, perfect man boobs. Mo has one. |
Our Portage had a few when he was much older. One was like a pancake (six inches in circumference and no more than a half an inch thick) right on his rib cage. They are nothing. It's true. But that doesn't stop us from worrying I guess.
Our Theeps was the lumpiest dog ever. He got his first by the age of one (freaked us out). The vet said it was a little unusual at his age, but no concern. For the first year I wouldn't touch any of his lumps, but since he had at least six by his second birthday (and probably dozens by his tenth) I got over it. We monitored them all and they never amounted to anything. Not one even needed attention. But I hear you. It's hard to think of them getting old. I think they should all stay four forever. Old enough to be mature, and young enough to still be babies. |
Mojo (5 yr. old GSD) had a lipoma removed in October. As he was already having a growth removed from his paw, we decided to take the lipoma on his shoulder as well. Dr. wasn't concerned at all - didn't even mentioning sending it for biopsy. |
