We've started trying to let her stay outside of her crate but baby gated in a safe room. She has toys and a chew toy....nothing doing!!! She HATES IT!!!! She also has taken to having a conniption if we leave her outside in the back yard and leave the house. I mean complete melt down. What am I going to do? I really need to get her accustomed to being in a bigger space. I foresee some 7 or 8 hour days away from the house and I can't afford puppy doggy-care with DH being partially laid-off. He's taking any odd jobs he can so he's not at home either. I remember with crate training that you had to just ignore the fits. Is it the same with this? Or is she just too emotionally young to adjust to this? |

I have absolutely no answers for you on this one, but, I will be watching this thread closely since we are about to give Bailee his freedom. He also loves his crate, gets in it himself many times. We figured we would give him freedom a little at a time. First at night time then for short periods of time during the days. Good luck with your pupper. |
Obviously she must like the "safe" feeling she gets with her crate. Why not try to leave her crate up with the door opened, in a confined room? That way she has freedom to roam if she wants to but she can go back to her crate anytime she feels like it. Or you might try using an ex-pen. The feeling of a crate for the dog but more room to move around in it. |
