Meg my oes walks into everything!! When I take her out for a walk we will be walking along and all of a sudden she will catch a scent and her head will go to the ground. Then she seems to go out of her way to bang into anything park cars, walls, dust bins, people, laundry baskets, trees really just about anything and everything!!! Ive tied her hair back into a cute ponytail with ribbons (which she hates and has a scrumble to them get off). So at the moment Im just using hair bands. Which she tries to get off by rolling and pawing at them. Then after a while when she has enough hair to cover her eyes she leaves them alone!! She also has this knack of walking straight in front of you to direct some where else, (if your not quick to respond you walk straight into her or fall over!!!) Does anyone else have this happening to them? Or have I got a dog, that is adorable but awkward!!!! xx |

Wow! Your baby and my sheepie, Curtis, must be related! I'm not saying that he is dumb, quite the opposite actually, he's very smart. However, he runs into things all the time! Just yesterday I opened a drawer in the coffee table and my poor baby hit it straight on. He is forever walking in front of me, as if to make sure he's not being left behind, and then take a glance behind him to make sure I'm still following and subsequently bash into a wall or piece of furniture. That has to hurt!
So no, your sheepie is not alone in this delemma. I often wonder if the fur in his face has something to do with it, so I'm hoping that whenever he gets groomed we'll find out for sure. Best of luck with your fellow clumsey sheepie! |
I'm not sure that the hair is completely to blame. I have started keeping Max's hair pulled up in a top knot, and he still bangs into things. Not as much with the hair out of his face. But he still runs into things. I think he gets so involved in everything that is going on around us, and just doesn't pay attention to where he is going. It's just amazing that you throw a ball and he can catch it everytime without a problem, but you take him for a walk and he walks into a tree like he doesn't even see it. Go Figure. |
Thankyou, Im glad I not alone!. Yesterday she was running around while I was putting out washing and went straight into my legs. So Im thinking of putting a crash helmit on her!! You never know that might work. |
matie is quite clumsy too! i just thought it was because she doesn't realize how big she is yet...(9 months and still growing) so, i guess she'll be like this forever huh? most often, she gets in a place where she can't fit to turn around like between furniture, etc. and when she backs out, watch out! it there is something in the way, it's on the floor! there should be a back up beeper for dogs just like trucks have so everyone has time to get out of the way! when we go to play with her boyfriend (a 25 lb. sheltie) they take turns chasing eachother and she is so engrossed in their play that she doesn't notice anything else...people, plants, lawn furniture, etc. it's so funny, because he does realize how big she is and how small he is. when he gets tired, he goes to a space where he knows she won't fit and she tries to get to him to give kisses. then he just looks at me and his mom as if to say "make her leave me alone for a bit!" i told her to play "hard to get" but she's not going for it! |
