Whitening shampoo

Does Chris Christensen have good products? Is the "Show off" worth buying? Do you like the "White on White? I use the Cowboy Magic shampoo and conditioner but would also like a whitening shampoo. I also have the #! Super Whitening Gell - only used it twice. Should
I just use the gel more often?
THANKS

I like the White on White a lot. I also use the All Systems Whitening shampoo, too. I like the consistency of the CC one better, though. I've also recently tried the whitening shampoo and conditioner by Kelco and liked those, too.

The whitening gel is really more of a treatment for trouble spots. A whitening shampoo will brighten all the whites without any kind of peroxide or bleaching (although I don't think the gel is necessarily a bleach either). You can use the whitening shampoo on the whole body, too-- not just the whites.
I like the Isle of Dog whitening shampoo with primrose oil too. That was my most used white shampoo while showing Chewie.
The optical whiteners really show up and sparkle on my smooth coated dogs, but still give a bit of spark on the rougher OES coat. Like most of the better shampoos, it is not a bleach and doesn't damage the coat with frequent use.

I used the A1 all systems gel for problem areas - it seemed to work just fine.
Although since Chewie got trimmed down and he's not so hot, all his chin coat is growing in white and staying white. Soon I will have the last of the stained stuff trimmed off! :D
nice to know about the Isle of dogs I was looking at that - we have major coat issues

Ilove Isle of dog products...a little pricey but a little goes a long way and it is very good quality IMO>>>>>
Isle of Dog products are what many of the show maltese dogs I know use, and I like it as well. I also use CC's ...but lately, nothing. As often as I bathe my dogs and not having snow/mud here ...I haven't found the same use for it.

I can totally see it doing a wonderful job on the Maltese!
When I use it on Simon (basset) and Riley (rat terrier) the difference is amazing, just with one bath. On the OES coat is is a more subtle sparkle. Although if your dog has a smoother coat, it would also show on them.
Thanks!
What do you use for the area around the mouth and chin to try to whiten?
now i have been using the shampoo (cowboy magic) with the whitening gel after he is dry. bogey's beard is staining and now his chest is a little yellow. i cannot get him to stop digging in the mud. it is less now because i am with him most of the time when he is outside. but there are times he sneaks digging when i am not looking

Dish soap.

Dish soap.

we use that too here.

another whitening shampoo that is an old standard is the Bio-Groom whitening shampoo. My Samoyed friends all use it.
I ordered three kinds of Isle of DOg shampoo - from Amazon yesterday. Same price as everywhere else, with no shipping!!! Usually the shipping on liquids like that is as much as the product. Still cost me over $80 ......

But all the dogs should be sweet smelling in time for the holidays (if I start baths tomorrow night :) :) :) )
Dish soap? Dishwashing liquid? any brand?
Our former groomer always mixed dawn with her shampoo to cut the grease.

FOr the mouth I use Dawn or whatever is handy

Surprise - I use Dawn as well :D , but also more lately with Ivory liquid.

I used the soap full strength (just need a dab) on the nasty stained face hairs. Don't have to do that anymore.
I still mix a generous squirt of it in with my general shampoo in the mixing bottle (holds 32 oz) for spot, whites or whole body washing.
WOw great tips! So do I really need to use a whitening shampoo then?
also is "Show Off" good to get?
on amazon i have in my cart two whitening shampoos - Isle of Dog and CC.

You will be amazed at what a difference whitening shampoo really makes. If you think your dog is white now, wait till after the first bath with a good whitening shampoo. After awhile you'll be able to tell when they are due for a 're-vitalization' of the whites.

I really like the Show Off. To me, it's easier to put the foam in my hand and apply it than use a spray bottle or pour liquid in my hand for waterless spot cleaning on the face. My dogs aren't wild about getting sprayed in the face by some of the other waterless shampoos so Show Off makes us all a lot happier.
Thanks for the great tips for the mouth--I will give it a try!
Thanks! I ordered everything today.
Boy will my sheepies look good!

i better get those shampoos soon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Do I ever know THAT look well. You're just missing the dirty snout from nosing the dirt!
On one his outside times this afternoon, he played in the mud. I could not get the camera, had to get the hose! He was solid black! Could only see the whites of his eyes! What a mess. I hosed him off on the patio and the mud covered the deck, toweled dried him and me and put him inside. Cleaned the patio. Long day here! Went through six towels. Will bath him when the yard dries.
i use kelco plum white shampoo on most of my dogs, i put it on neat where it matters on any staining, then put it on dilute everywhere else, it give an iredisant shine, i find it the best whitening shampoo i have tried though i have not tried chris chisenson on cowboy magic.
i also tried leovet shiny white shampoo, it is for horses but as all my shampoos are suitable for horses i thought i would give it a try, just on billy. ( i hae a friend ith a white horse so thought a good home was there if it didnt work!) and wow, it just gets whiter, stains gone and it says on the label that it will discourage stains for 2-3 days. i didnt use a conditioner, but then found it did nt make the hair brittle either like other shampoos. i must say its expensive £12 a bottle and thats undiluted but the results are worth it. he was definatly a bright white.

I use the CC White on White and Mr. Groom Whitener. I'd love to try Isle of Dog, but haven't found where to buy it. Can someone suggest a retailer?

I bought it on Amazon - and I had free shipping which made it much cheaper thna ordering anywhere else.

The two I bought for the other dogs - dirty smelly dog and one wiht royal jelly were very nice. the whitner was okay - I am giving it a second try this weekend.
anyone try their detangling spray?
^^^^
I just ordered it (off Amazon) at the suggestion of Mad Dog, it appears Marley spent Christmas week getting a weave while i was visiting with family
detangling spray has never worked for us! I try and get most of his knots out when he still has conditioner in his hair. Is it wrong that i use tresemme on my dog?
Ironically, someone who was one of the first to use Isle of Dog is using Tresemme now with great success.

Since there is a vast range of coat types - everything from soft to harsh, some with little undercoat and others that look like woolly mammoths. I always find it is best to experiment to find the best results. My rule is that as long as: 1.) my dog's coat is shiny; and, 2.) she is not scratching; and, the coat is not breaking, things are good. I bathe weekly so it is easy to monitor.
I love tresemee for bathing the dogs, it's so cheap and smells good so why not. LOL

I was just about to switch to doggy shampoo until you said that, I started using Treseme in the summer for my hair, but I don't like it & don't want to throw it away. Now I have a good use for it
i have still to collect my oes (FRIDAY) but trying to get ahead on everything. i am fascinated with all these white beard remedies and also amazed that some seemingly harsh products are ok.

i live in the uk and some of what is talked about doesnt appear to be available, but i was wondering if anyone had used vanish? as in the washing detergent? its available in a spray too. i saw on one link that you can use woolite, which is a washing powder. i dont want to poison the poor dog!!

LOL - actually, yes. Many people use it to wash their show sheep.
(I'm serious!)
Well I know what I am doing after quilting tonight since I am out of Crystal white.

I do have liquid woolite for whites (and one for colors as it is) in the laundry room though. Thanks Dawn.

Have fun. Yesterday was bath day for Chewie. He needed it, especially after all the sledding and snow time we've had. I decided to let them all play like crazy yesterday, then get him all brushed and bathed. It's a nice feeling - and he smells so good!
And with all this snow, he will stay clean for next weekend's snow pull on Sat. and agility on Sun.

Is that like Glo white? I'm in the UK too, and sometimes the terminology & brand names fox me. We don't have 'Dawn' liquid here & it took me a while to figure out what it was :D
According ot some web pages people claim "Fairy" is the UK equvilent (or the same product according to some and the encyclopedia "P&G UK's leading Fairy brand of dishwashing liquid"

Don't forget the great price
Cherrybrook just started carrying Isle of Dog products- I got an email from them this afternoon about it!

http://www.cherrybrook.com/index.cfm/a/ ... gs_Shampoo
I never thought of using "human" shampoo on a dog. I thought it might be too harsh? I'm not sure why I would think that if I would use it on myself.... I have used Johnson and Johnson's baby shampoo when I was in a pinch, but, I usually use an all natural puppy shampoo. I guess I may have to consider Tresemme....

Interesting. I'm not a Cherrrybrook orderer normally. How is their shipping cost? I usually just get the Isle of Dog at shows.....so no shipping. Haven't needed any in awhile, so not sure how even the product pricing compares.

Thanks for posting it, Allison :D :D

Keep getting it at the shows. The shipping is enough to make ordering shampoos annoying and they seldom run specials to make it worthwhile.
I received the email also.Their shipping prices are high and never have I found a break, except sometimes they send a coupon code for 10% off.
That is like saving the tax.
The Pure Paw products I have used are very good,
but a little pricey.
Robin
Robin--thanks for the heads up on the pure paws. I have seen their videos on you tube and was tempted to try the products. Would you let me know which products have you tried and liked?

Thanks
Jenn
Jenn,
I bought the Pure Paws White Lightening,Pure Paws Brightening and the Pure Paws Volumizing foam.
Be really careful with the whitening formula because it is a deep purple color.Make sure you dilute it in a bottle with water before you apply to white fur,it will turn it a whitish/grey color.
Robin
Pure Paws is selling their brightening shampoo, reconstructing shampoo, deep conditioner, and ultra finishing spray at 25% off now through July 23! If you buy a few bottles at that price and stock up then the shipping doesn't seem so bad.

I just bought the brightening shampoo and finishing spray. Can't wait to try it out on Millie.

Haha! Great pics! Would be a great ad.
Great products! Thanks for posting the pictures of your beautifully clean baby!
I had to put my sunglasses on....LOL!
Robin
Thanks Ron. We think she would make a great doggie model also :clappurple:

Robin, I agree they are very good products. She is practically glowing 8)
The Pure Paw products do make the whites sparkle.I saw the bathing video online showcasing their products with the Lambluv OES.My Bella's brother ordered and used the products and was very impressed,so I gave it a try.I am impressed also.
Robin
is there a link to the bathing video?

Interesting to know that there are people using Tresemme, arent they harmful to dogs? the vet told me about the PH difference between human and dogs.
