We are getting the wind right now! Was snowing horizontally around 5:30 but temps hovering just about freezing. As lady on radio said, "It's not snowing, it's slushing." I fully expected ice rink conditions on the road as it rained yesterday, but we are just warm enough. East and West of us however, the visibility is zero, trucks sliding off the interstate, etc....yeah, I understand Flagstaff got hammered. The road between Albuquerque and Flagstaff is not a place to be in a storm like this.........high elevation, flat and windy. Ditto going east from Albuquerque, flat and windy into Texas.
I have a pot luck luncheon today and sorta expecting it to be cancelled since it is located in the higher elevation of town which is ice right now with high winds, but may get warmer by Noon hence no ice just the wind. |
We had the northern edge of the storm, but it's standard weather for us, in JANUARY. I flew from SLC to Phoenix yesterday and it was a bumpy high level large storm, so it's going to be ugly no matter where it moves. I'm in Chicago now and will get to experience it here. |
In emails w/ bro in Denver, he complained of cold...plus snow......so yeah, Chicago will get upwards of 6 inches and usual balmy winter temps . Stay warm and hope you can get out of there and fly off to someplace nicer ....at least SLC is not forecast to be buried, just lightly covered. |
Rain here and I HATE it. I want SNOW! |
The snow has begun here
We are in a blizzard warning for later this afternoon into Wednesday. I am so excited!!! I can't wait to take the sled out No more grass and pool around here |
wellllll, lemme tell you.....it rained pretty hard all day yesterday...last night the rain stopped...but the wind picked up...we lost power last night about 11:30 pm and it still isnt on....
i had to do my hair and makeup at work...lets just say it's not a good hair day |
We're getting our first snow here in Chicago which means people are driving like idiots and acting like they've never seen the stuff. Normally I would be thrilled, but the dog rescue is having a fundraiser tonight and I'm scared no one will come out |

Heather, I don't know how bad things will get down your way, but my agility classes have already been cancelled Tues/Weds both and I'm about to chicken out on herding this afternoon rather than play chicken with the storm as it rolls in for real. Do you have a back-up plan? Can you put one into play quickly if not? Kristine |
My agility class for tonight is cancelled too. They cancelled it last night, infact. We all live out of town.
I am supposed to be at work tomorrow at 7am. Should be interesting. LeAnne is up in the TC's for school (finals) and has a bag packed. Plan B is for her staying with my friend Laura (fellow nurse and basset rescue person) who lives very near her school. It's not supposed to be bad up there (about 125 miles north of us), but worse as you get closer this way. Some school closings, but not for us yet. Mostly south/west where it is worse already. They don't usually cancel - after all, if they closed every time we had a snow storm, we never would be able to graduate!! |
It is unusually cold in Boulder. We've gotten a few inches, not too much. Luckily it is a very fine dry snow so it doesn't clump as much on the doggie paws.
Maggie had developed a limp in her rear right leg. She's on enforced rest for another week. So she's missing all the fun but Henry is having a blast. His whole outer coat gets frozen crispy but he doesn't care. He just rolls around on his back and buries his face in it. My boy from Florida loves the snow. |

I just hope it stops snowing by 7pm and the streets are salted and people are smart enough to take public transportation. Cross paws for us! |
I was actually looking forward to having so much snow! I live about an hour north of Salt Lake City and it was projected that we would get 6-11". So far, we have gotten about 2'. Since I'm not commuting right now, it would be great to have a huge snowstorm. |
oops! I meant 2 inches, not two feet!!! |
We're supposed to get about 15 cm of snow tonight... I can't see it happening though. |
just cold and rainy here in Missouri...KC has been hit with snow.... |
sorry................can't help it.
It was 85 and sunny sunny sunny yesterday. High clouds today with light breeze. Supposed to be rainy and colder tomorrow down to 70's. I know this won't last for me forever but i am enjoying it this winter. My back isn't hurting as it did up in Colo. with the storms coming thru. Yesterday i sat and watched the hummingbirds zooommmmming all around. I am trying to find the nest. Then last night (no one knows the reason) almost the whole town was in blackout. No electricity. I was on the cell phone with some friends in N.J. and as i was sitting here, looking at the star's above, and the milky way saw about 4 shooting stars. Was neat. I can only imagine back to the Aztec and Myan's and this sky at night............ stay warm! |
It's been cold here. The low last night was 13 degrees. We are working on insulation in our house so it is freezing in our house still. |
Snow, snow and more snow - along with a really brutal north wind. Thankfully, we are still on the warm side - it's 20 degrees out. Windchill makes it 3 degrees. Tomorrow the HIGH is supposed to be 11, with lows well below zero.
I noticed it seemed a bit colder than it should be in here (the corn stove was still running in the central part of the house) and sure enough, the thermostat said it was 54 degrees. Not supposed to be - it is set at 65. So, Todd went out to check it (access to the cellar is through a trap door outside ) and luckily it was just a full filter. We had recently changed it, but all the accumulated dust from the start-up of the heating season must have done it in faster than normal. Thank goodness it was an easy fix. Otherwise all of us would have been camped in the living room tonight! |
We live for this...Snow Junkies!!! Seriously thou it's about time mountains have been bare up till now. Very cold that I will not deny, -3 at the moment. |

That cold is coming for us tomorrow - and looks like the rest of the week too. Thursday is my day off and I can't wait - the dog sled gets it's debut run for me!!! |
In and out of here quickly, Phew! People here have no concept of ice on roads. We will gradually climb back to 50 by week's end.
Looking at the rest of y'all, long spell of cold temps and snow. Enjoy. I know the skiers and sledders will. |
I really envy all of you who have snow!! We haven't had any to speak of here in five years!! Hoping this year we will have a couple! It never lasts more than a couple of days but it sure is nice while it is happening!! |
Ok so i take my post back.TOO DAMN COLD TO EVEN THINK ABOUT BEING OUTSIDE. WIND CHILL -30 @ house. In the high country Loveland Ski area for example -50 with wind chill. |
Loving it
Snow day! LOL I want to take the kids and dogs toboganning when it settles a bit, still too windy right now. Blizzard, thunder, but changing to freezing rain now which sucks. |
Just snow and mega wind here. The BLIZZARD warning actually came true. Out on the open prairie - it just whips and there's nothing to stop it. We do have a windbreak, but it is just blasting right through.
I'm stuck home until they get the plows out. pretty worthless now though, as the wind will drift it in again as soon as they plow it. So, no plowing happening on my gravel road anytime soon. I was supposed to be at work at 7am. I called and said see you when I can get out My client's 2 night nurses both live in town (not sure who was there last night), and both of us day nurses live out of town. It is still warm here - about 10 degrees. But the wind is over 30 mph with gusts over 40mph. So, windchill is about -13 now. And, it's getting colder for the rest of the week, as the cold front spreads this way. |
Chicago dodged the bullet, mostly. Keeping fingers crossed that my airplane will be coming from Phoenix and I will be able to get out of here tomorrow morning before the cold comes. |
