I always refer to them as "chewies" Tonight by accident I offered Tiggy a dental Kong and asked if she wanted her chewie. She bolted for the cupboard where I keep the rawhides and did a perfect sit in front of the door. What could I do? She got the "real" chewie. She obviously recognises the word for what it is and didnt want a second rate replacement. Note to self be more consistent. |

Smart Tiggy! |
You'd be surprised how large their vocabulary can be! We figured Melody understood somewhere between 35-45 human words.....maybe more. She was a good one for following the obedience judge's ring instructions before my brain had digested them Made her look exremely polished in the ring while she made me looks bit like I had 2 left feet! |
Oh, we'll have to have Dawn and the other "Chewie" come for a visit. How confused will Tiggy be with a dog named Chewie?

Ha! Around it you can actually hear and see the slow moving cogs in their brains, especially Jack's. Give him a command and it's like, " Did she say 'outside'? What else could she have said? Do I really want to go outside and if I do, why, what will I do out there? How will I get back in?" MO, on the other hand, will snap to and do the command especially if it is "bed." She will tremble in anticipation of DH's golden word and then race back and fly onto the bed and get snuggled in in mere seconds. Harry is just a good medium speed dog, willing and a gentleman. And as for the Pyr, Ha! This was a breed developed to think and work without human commands.....it is more of a negotiation with them. |
oh yes they do have a large vocabulary. good for Tiggy.
i know i have to be careful what i say. the CAR word must be spelled if they are not going for a RIDE. |
Don't mess with a dog's treats!!!

I was wondering what she would do with the "real" Chewie as well! I already have 2 friends whose dogs go crazy and look out the window for him when their owners say "where's Chewie?" |
^^^^^
I did think of that but I would never insinuate that your Chewie is a food item. We also spell some words like WALK, LEADS, PARK |
In herding lessons my instructor spells out the commands she wants me to try.
In agility class the other night we were up for our second run - and I messed something up right away - Marley correctly finished about 6 obstacles int he sequence before she realized I wasn't just being slow, but had stopped. |
Chauncey is very smart and has a fairly large vocabulary, but is just plain stubborn at times |
