Anxiety = Diarrhea

Hi dog 'mates,
I'm searching for some tips. Alice has always had trouble if I go out of town for more than a night. I always have a dog-sitter so that she stays in her home environment, but either during my absence or shortly after my return, she tends to have a terrible bout of diarrhea.

I was having her eat the canned Science Diet A/D, which kept her stomach in check for a few trips. However that didn't work for the last 2-day trip that I took. Now I have an upcoming 3-day holiday over Christmas to prepare her for.

I did a quick search through the threads here and found some references to DAP. Has anyone had any success using this for anxiety induced diarrhea? Any other ideas?

Cheers!
nick & Alice

:oops: Molly was constantly er ummm running with this problem. What helped us but did not prevent it was actually simple crackers. It seemed to absorb what was ailing her and was a nice treat as well ... I send my sympathy and feel so sad for her :(
Get a better food than SD, talk to trainer, look into some more natural foods like Inova, maybe Merrick, also is it canned or dry. canned food is not always the best...Just a thought have a great holiday!
Thanks for the help! Her regular chow is nutro natural choice senior (dry), sometimes with a bit of nutro senior turkey&rice (canned) on top. I'll look into Inova & Merrick.

Crackers, that's an interesting idea :)
I think it's the food switch in your attempt to prevent problems that is actually causing the problem.
I'd suspect the sitter of giving too many treats or bringing treats from home that are new to your dog also.
I'd try not changing her diet at all and making sure the sitter sticks to it, and if there is still some digestive upset but only when you go away I'd add rice to her food for a couple days before you go and while you are gone and for a couple days once you return.
