My breeder is wonderful and has told me about the products she prefers, but I wanted as much information as I could get. I was hoping all you experienced owners could give me some pointers as to some of the must-haves for my new puppy, especially the best toys (to help with chewing and for play), treats, help for house training, crates, collars. . .alot of information I guess, but anything would help! (And please, since I'm new, if there was an old entry and I'm repeating something, would someone kindly direct me there? I didn't find it, but I certainly don't want to waste anyone's time if its already been answered!!!) Thank you so much!! |

Welcome and congratulations! |
Welcome from St. Louis!!!!
There are many, many threads about a new puppy, under ""Getting a Puppy"", but I am sure you will get a lot of suggestions. When Heart came, I loved the 'frozen bone'. I got it a Petsmart. It is a canvas bone that you drench with water and then freeze. It seemed to help with the teething phase. Also baby kongs were great too!! When will the puppy arrive? A girl or a boy? Any names? We love to see pictures~~ Here is a picture of Heart the 1st day she arrived... Good Luck and keep us posted!!!!!!! |
Congrats! We hope you stay to share pics and stories. Friendliest board on the net.
At least you are headed down the right path with knowing you've got a "monster" coming your way (based on your username). My advice is don't let the first week fool you. Their true personality comes out once they're comfortable I always tell people that outside of food, all you need is paper towels and nature's miracle (cleaning product for dog ickys). For toys, nylabone puts out a line of TUFF toys found at petco/petsmart. That's what I recommend IF your dog is a big chewer. They're indestructible and will save you money in the long run (some tend to be pricey but you'll pay more buying cheap toys weekly)!! Lastly, just keep searching the very forum you're on (getting a puppy). I'm sure you'll find many threads if you scroll to the bottom and click on the different pages. Also going to the top of the forum and clicking on the search feature and entering stuff like "nature's miracle" (using the option under it that says ...search all terms) and then choosing "Getting a puppy" as the only forum you want to search will bring up the right threads too. You just want to enter things other people may have said in the past as things to get to pull up the right thread titles. |
Ooooo puppy breath!! Cant wait to see pictures. I know when I got my Walter (was a gift from hubby) I was so shocked and so in love the min I saw him. Welcome to the group. |
Thank you all for the help! I've already got a nice list started!!
I'll post pics as soon as I get them, we're driving up soon to see the puppies, but it'll still be another few weeks until we can bring him home. Can't wait! |
Welcome and congratulations on your new puppy.
Take your time with the supplies. I found that I purchased things that were not really useful when I shopped before the puppy got here. A good crate is a must. Dog bowls and food on hand. A few toys (good tough ones as was mentioned before) and of course the 'clean-up' supplies. I would wait on collars & leashes etc. until your puppy arrives. Can't wait to see pictures! |
