Show Me's Harrington RE OF He acquired his Open FAST title at a trial yesterday. Now for the snicker ..... he is eligible to compete at the Excellent level in the FAST class. Even my trainer who was thrilled over his feat looked a little daunted at that task before us. There are three classes offered in agility- Standard, Jumpers with Weaves and FAST. FAST allows for mistakes and that is why our boy can actually succeed in this class. FAST is an acronym for Fifteen And Send Time. Meaning that there are fifteen obstacles with varied point values and a Send area that you must complete to qualify. The concept is working a distance from your dog - thus "sending" him away from you to take the obstacles including a red line that you cannot cross over. For a dog of Harry's jump height of 24" he has to complete an Open course in 32 seconds and collect 55 points (including the Send bonus). You can go over time but every second over is a one point deduction. Yesterday Harry ran the course in 24 seconds and received 68 points taking 1st place in his class. We taped his run but I will need assistance from someone at home before I can post it. The next time a FAST class is offered in our area is April so I have several months to prepare him for Excellent. He will need to get 60 points in 32 seconds and the distance in the Send area moves from 10-15' to 15-20' and possibly an additional obstactle in that area. |

Actually we will work towards his Excellent FAST title - XF. Per the AKC Agility rules & regulations: For a title, dog must earn 3 qualifying scores in Excellent A FAST agility class under at least 2 different judges. Then if he manages that we would work towards his Master Excellent FAST title - MXF. Per the AKC Agility rules & regulations: For a title, dog must earn 10 qualifying scores in Excellent B FAST agility class under at least 2 different judges. Trial at which XF was earned does not count toward the 10. So we will be very busy for a long time as I can't imagine that this will be easy with Harry. Of course, it will still be easier than us getting the elusive Standard Novice title or Jumpers With Weaves Novice title that Harry has been struggling with a long time. He has never had a single Q in either despite our many entries. Although we have come very close at the last two trials to getting a Q in both. The table was our undoing again yesterday in Standard. |
