Um Ron it's only the Americans who've changed it. LOL

Well ok Canadians have a few new slang terms that the brits didn't come up with, as does Australia on a much bigger scale, but it's kind of funny that the US is the only one who is really different as far as written english goes. Same with the whole metric vs imperial thing.

Yes, and we like it that way. Keeps the rest of the world wondering :D
Well it's Cheque if you're Canadian (originally French) but based on our "British English roots" or Check if you're American. If you're a crook ..it's a rubber check/cheque.

Canadians also spell colour like this, rather than color. Same goes for a series of other words in which the U is included in Canada but not in the US. Most teachers will confirm - students are never marked incorrect for either spelling as both are acceptable in Canada. (Dunno if they would be marked incorrect in the US.) Same goes for cheque or check..so the answer to your question is BOTH are correct.

Lisa.....now is my cheque/check in the mail for my response to your question?
Oh wait .....there's more!

Unless of course you are talking about body checks....then it's CHECK. Something we are all familiar with if you live with a giant 100 pound furball called an OES. One may also hear the term if they play hockey. You would hear the term a lot should you own OES and were a hockey player. If you also happen to also play chess then you'd hear Check Mate.

CHECK MATE. This may also be spelled Czech mate if you happen to have a Czech friend and happen to be from Aus where friends are referred to as "mates". Makes you kinda wonder if you happen to be playing chess with this czech mate. Would you then say,"check mate, czech mate?

If you happen to be playing for money with your czech mate and you said "check mate" would you then follow that with "where's my cheque/check mate?

Marianne >>who obviously has too much time on her hands.

very good!!
