Showing up. Woo hoo!!!!!!!! |
Making pies - 2 pecan, 2 pumpkin.
This is my favorite food holiday - can't wait! This is for the family party this Saturday - I will make nothing on actual Thanksgiving - I work that day. Todd always makes the meal anyway! |
Everything and silly me, thinking about additional recipes such as hot sausage cornmeal dressing with green chile gravy.....
Actually all DH wants anyway is the herbed dressing and cranberries with turkey on the side, so I don't have to mess with all the potatoes, etc. Oh yes, he does want his pumpkin pie with real whipped cream...wonder if I can get away with Redi Whip?? |
Yeah, everything......and it's hubby's first thanksgiving at home with us in a few years, lol.... |
Ok - I'm doing Thanksgiving this year (again)
We're having: Turkey gravy stuffing cranberry sauce corn carrots, celery & mushrooms w/ water chestnuts asparagus spinach artichoke casserole pumpkin pie (Vic insisted even though his mom always makes one) pumpkin souffle Why do I do this? I selfishly decided not to include some of the requests - like mashed potatoes - too ordinary. We have mashed potatoes as an 'everyday'. And none of them are just ordinary, like corn heated in a bowl. They are all things I only make a few times a year and they each take some time. I'll probably throw in another pie, and probably cookies of some sort for the days following. In case anyone is wondering, we aren't that many people but I will have drop-ins for the whole weekend. And yes, I have already started preparing food, in between cleaning. Shellie |
Thanksgiving is at our house and we will be 12 in total. My sister is making the pumpkin pies, my daughter is making a few vegan desserts and corn muffins, I'm doing the rest. Makes me tired just thinking about it!! |
I'm making everything!
turkey stuffing cranberry sauce mashed potatoes baked beans green bean casserole celery/cream cheese logs At least I was told to put on weight, so not a bad time of year for that! lol... |
casserole?!?! I thought you didn't like casseroles
...and you need to put on weight? That has to be the best compliment ever. I'm jealous. |

...and you need to put on weight? That has to be the best compliment ever. I'm jealous. Ugh, the casserole is NOT for me. Almost none of it is, actually! Putting on weight is harder than I thought! Stupid pregnancy messed up my body and made it not be able to hold on to any weight. Never had that problem before! |
Thanksgiving is at my sisters!! Yeah!!! We love Thanksgiving at Traci's. I am always the "mashed potato and gravy" person. I can do them at the last minute, and run them over real quick... I'm also down for a snack tray -- stuffed tomatoes- salami wraps-- that kind of thing.
Drinks and a good table cloth complete my contribution. John helps me carry it across the Field or drives the car next door. That is HIS contribution. LOL My Sister makes the BEST turkey in the WORLD. Our group is a bit smaller this year. Only 36. |
You are little this year.
Ours is at about 50, give or take a few! More if some of the teens bring their BF/GF's |
Just connected with the DIL. I am bringing the pumpkin pies, whipped cream, sweet potatoes & the rolls. She wanted me to bring the rolls especially because she said I always have the best ones. We won't tell her they are Pillsbury Grands |
all of it plus something for the fur kids! |
All of it
turkey stuffing cranberry sauce string bean casserole ranch glazed carrots mashed potatoes sweet potatoes asparagus w/hollandaise sauce I am sure there is something I am forgetting. I usually wind up having too many different vegetables, but I try to have something that each person likes. |
All of it... from the shopping to the cleaning...

Our home menu last evening was Turkey (injected with creole butter - a 1st time for that),
dressing, corn, homemade cranberry sauce, mashed potatoes with cheesy gravy, and pumpkin dessert (the pecan pumpkin dump cake). After eating all day at work as well, I was SOOO stuffed! I think I still am stuffed today....... Our turkey was 25 pounds, and $.39/lb as well. We only got 3 - shame! |
Dawn, don't you just love the pumpkin dump cake??? that is the one I did too and man is it so good...
Kerry, where do you store all those turkeys???? but yummo, thanks giving every month... |

Kerry, where do you store all those turkeys???? but yummo, thanks giving every month... Yes, that is such a good dessert. LeAnne made it, as it was voted the one to make instead of pie at our house. (I was at work). Thankfully, Todd, along with LAnne, Lisa and Travis (the kids) had the whole meal ready, table set when I got home from work. I just made my plate and we all sat down to eat :0) I would have gotten more turkeys too, but the guys just "processed" the steers, and our half will be in there soon. Also, lamb will be joining the beef soon and I was not sure how much freezer room I would actually need. |

Ahh - when the kids moved out - we moved to a larger house, added three large dogs (one moved with us) and in the last year bought two large freezers to hold their food They actually let me share one of the freezers and put my own food in part of it. |
I can't believe how cheap your turkeys are . Cheapest here (MI) that I saw was .59 IF you spent at least $50, excluding the turkey. Butterball ran $1.19 |
I usually get a better deal on my turkey, but this year I went to Safeway and got the Honeysuckle for a decent price. The bird was pretty good tasting and the stuffing, my mom's recipe was fantastic.
I LOVE cooking Thanksgiving dinner... I get up early and start before anyone gets up. This year I did the Pumpkin pie crunch first, then started on the stuffing for the bird. Lee helped me give the bird his bath and pulled out all the inner stuff for me. My house smelled so good, when I was going to bed I could still smell all the aromas and smiled. Once the bird is in the oven, I get to take my shower and get the table set for the guests... this year, just family and Dale. Tonight I'm going to make turkey and mushroom risotto... |
