So, thinking back to it, we got home late that night, and took her for a run in the park, and when we came home she drank a lot of water. Then I took her back out to do her business, and she only went numero 2. So she obviously had a lot of water in her bladder, but why wouldn't she wake up and ask to be let out? I'm a light sleeper, and I wake up when she so much as moves on the bed, so I wouldn't have slept through her asking to go out. She's almost 2, and since being housebroken at 4 months, has zero history of peeing in the house, let alone where she sleeps. It appears as she literally "peed the bed" in her sleep, or more accurately, "peed the husband". Anyone ever come across this? Should I be worried, or is it just one those fluke things? Maybe I should get some pet diapers as a joke for my husband As you might suspect, Sunny has been banned from the bed |

I'd think it was a fluke... a late run at the park, lots of water, maybe a little
more tired than usual. The water probably didn't have time to pass through her system. Maybe she was dreaming she was outdoors in the yard... |
She might be developing a UTI or if she is spay, then she might be a leaky sheepie and need to go on the tiny "leaky lady" pills. I highly suggest you get a waterproof mattress cover to go under all. You can put another mattress cover over the top of it if you want to extra "fluff".
Glacier, my old lady, is starting to get drippy when she sleeps. It's common in old age, but a 2 year old, no. |
Asterisk did this when I first allowed her on the bed. It was a surprizing thing, too. She was completely house trained and I woke up with a puddle at my feet. She didn't do it again.
I just figured she was so comfortable that night that she didn't think about moving. |
dreamer id that one time about 2 months ago i hear it and awoke to him doing it glad it was on his side .. i think he drank to much 2 |
Chewie did a similar thing once, when he was a puppy. It was the couch and he was just standing there, with a waterfall.....
Never happened again And he never gets on the couch (before or after), just his front legs once in awhile to give a hug and kiss |

hmmm, I think I'll get her checked out for a UTI. She had one this past summer, but at the end of her antibiotics, she tested clear. But she recently spent 5 days at the kennel. Maybe they didn't let her out often enough to do her business I hate leaving her at the kennel, I wish sheepies were allowed to go on husband's work related conferences! And yes, she's spayed, and yes, she was a leaky lady for a while! I love how you've worded it! She was on the leaky lady pills for 7 days straight, then one pill a week for 10 weeks. She finished them about 2 months ago and has been "dry" since. I'll have to make sure to check where she's slept to see if she's leaving anything behind. Maybe she's truly a leaky lady and needs the pills for life. Oh, the things we do for our dogs! Thanks SheepieBoss for reminding me about that, I'll book her in for a check up. |
Dutch did this and also in a chair and on the floor when she was sleeping , she had no uti infection but she was spayed at 6 mos and she started this just before turning 3 , the vet put her on Propalin (sp?) 3 times daily and after a couple of months I started reducing the amount and now it seems as long as I give her one dose a week we have no problems (keeping my fingers crossed ) and I think in another few months I will try stopping that and see what happens. |
finally we are not alone. Molly is almost 5 years young now and has been doing this for two years. Our old sheepie also had these incidents. From what I have been able to ascertain they have no idea it is happening and it is a weakening of some muscle. We have her on DES once a week and it totally stops it. The good news is, at least for us is that it appears to be so weak it is basically water ... be gentle on her and tell hubby to move over |
It is ironic this is posted. Last night I had Gigi on the bed with me and she peed. She has not done that for months. This morning she peed on a towel on had on the floor to pick up sheepie chin water drops.
I hope this passes. I am afraid to let her back on the bed. She sleeps in a crate at night. We were thinking of letting her out of the crate at night. Not yet! |

you know, whenever she left a puddle, we were always so confused as to whether it was pee or a little puddle of water (from her beard, or snow from her back end, etc). because I would soak it up on a piece of paper towel to see the color, and it was always just so very slightly tinted yellow, like it could be dirty water from outside. But when she pees in the snow, it's noticeably yellow. Interesting. Maybe they're mutants and have two bladders, one for urine and one for water! I've been watching when when gets up from a snooze, and no puddles so far. And yes, we had to be super gentle with her, because she had no idea what had happened. I'm of the mind that if you don't catch them in the act, all you can do is clean it up. And I'm working on my hubby. I actually really love Sunny up on the bed, she's warm and I love waking up now and then and stealing a little head scratch. |
FRANKIE IS AN ALMOST 8 MOS OLD NEUTERED MALE. HE POTTY TRAINED WONDERFULLY AFTER WE GO HIS UTI CURED. MY HUSBAND THOUGHT IS WAS TIME TO LET HIM OUT OF THE CRATE AT NIGHT. HE WOULD SPEND SOME OF THE NIGHT IN THE BEDROOM WITH US ON THE FLOOR. THE REST OF THE NIGHT BY THE FRONT DOOR. WE ARE BOTH LIGHT SLEEPERS. THIS LASTED FOR ABOUT A MONTH(PROBABLY NOT REALLY THAT LONG) THEN ONE MORNING WE GOT UP AND THERE WAS A VERY LARGE PUDDLE BY THE SLIDING GLASS DOOR HE USES TO GO OUT SIDE. WE THOUGHT IT WAS JUST A FLUKE THING. NEXT NIGHT A PUDDLE ON THE CARPED IN THE DINING ROOM. TOOK HIM TO THE VET FOR A URINE SAMPLE. NO UTI. VET GAVE ME ANTIBIOTICS AND TOLD ME TO CRATE HIM THAT NIGHT, IF HE HAD AN ACCIDENT TO START HIS MEDS.. WELL GUESS WHAT NO ACCIDENT. HE IS NOW IN HIS CRATE AT NIGHT. SLEEPS ALL NIGHT VERY COMFORTABLY. I USUALLY HAVE TO WAKE HIM UP WHEN I GET UP TO GET READY FOR WORK. I REALLY WISH I KNEW WHAT HE WAS THINKING. |
babysheepie, he's probably just not ready yet. No biggie, just give him a couple more months. Sometimes at that age they can hold it fine in the crate, but given the freedom of being able to move about and sniff is sometimes too much for the still young bladder. Don't rush to get him out of his crate, they like the security of it (Sunny took about a year to like it, but now it's the place she chooses to sleep).
Try your best to set him up for success, because the more he consistently doesn't make a mistake, the more ingrained it is in his brain to not go in the house. Happy to say, Sunny hasn't peed in her sleep again, so she must have just been way too comfortable up on the bed. It's funny now |
