It was addressed to the OES-L, but was rejected. First, right off the bat, let me say that I'm sorry if anyone is unhappy that I am running a discussion forum about Old English Sheepdogs. It is definitely not my intention to bug anyone!!! Secondly, I want to assure everyone that I don't see this as any kind of a competition. Although I would love to see my hobby endeavor (running the oes.org website, which includes the forum.oes.org board being discussed here) to be popular and successful, I don't want to replace this list, nor "steal" members away from here. The OES-L is GREAT! I have a link to it prominently on my website. Here is what it says: "The OES-L Sheepdog Email list. This is a wonderful list to join. With a large and active membership, OES-L is perhaps the best resource on the web for advice!" ( http://www.oes.org/html/community.html ) My hope is that the forum that I am running will complement this list. I did a search on the web, and did not find another threaded forum on Old English Sheepdogs. I did find one bulletin board system, where all the posts are listed on one page, and the number of posts was fairly small. There are some differences, some minor, some major, between the forum.oes.org and the OES-L. 1) You do not need to join the bulletin board to post. 2) Posts can be made anonymously. 3) You receive notification emails only if your message has been responded to, and only if you want. 4) The board can be moderated (currently only by me). Offensive posts can be removed, offensive words prevented and/or edited. 5) If you post under your registered ID, you can edit your own posts after you hit the send button. :) 6) The board is public, and will stand as a "permanent" online resource for people searching the web for information regarding OESDs 7) Information is grouped into subject areas (the groupings I set up were of my own choice, and can be changed by me quite easily... a topic can be split into sub-topics, like topics can be merged, and so forth. 8) The board can be easily searched for information, both through it's own search function, and eventually by public search engines as they pick up the information. 9) The board can be accessed (both read and posted to) from anywhere you have access to a web browser. 10) If you choose to register, the board remembers the last time you logged in, and highlights new posts since that time, similar to emails marked as unread. There are other differences too, such as the rules under which the board can operate, but I think I've gone on quite long enough already! <vbg> |

I think its great,the more the merrier!Kynzi |
Hello!
I just joined this list. It is the third OES list for me; can one have too many? I don't think of other lists as competing with my own Raw-Fed Old English Sheepdogs list. I just hope to meet some new OES owners this way and maybe learn some new things. Cheers, Laura F. Garcia |
I love it!
I found out that Abbi was having a hormone problem. I thought she was becoming nuerotic because of all the bad weather. I love looking up the old threads and reading the advice. I love the fact that you could just refer someone to advice already given and they would have immediate use of it. It's all right here. It is less competative and more of a resource. I would love to know how you set it up. My husband keeps trying to make me happy with more computers because he likes gadgets and I can make them work. We now have 6 computers. Two are down with a virus at present (my college student was using them and ... she didn't keep up with the updates ...) I have been trying to network the other 4 together; but where am I going with this? This isn't a computer forum, its a OES forum. I am going to try to put up some photos of Abbi later. I am trying to run 6 web pages for family and keep my Abbi happy too. Keep up the good works!!! Love your forum. |
Just thought I'd drag up this old thread to complement another post. |
I'm totally blind, but is the link you have, the link to the OES email list? (http://www.oes.org/html/community.html) If so, where on the page is the link? I was just wondering, but I might have misunderstood what was written. |
LOL
No, you're not blind. I deleted that link recently, when I went inactive. The link to OES-L is http://www.corp-reflection.com/OES-L/ |
Oh, okay!
See, when I first read the first post, I thought you were comparing this site to the OES-L. Got it. Then, I went to the link you provided and didn't see a link for OES-L. So I got confused and began to think (after over-thinking this) ...that oes.org created an email list type of thing because the link provided just seemed to go back to this forum. Anyways.............................................. nevermind. |
You know.... I'm on both lists. It certainly is a tragedy for all when everyone can't be united. There is a ton of great information to be shared between both sides. And then there is the renegade Sheepie yahoo group, where I was more or less harassed off for expressing my opinion that people should have the option to keep the tail on their sheepies. ~Katie & Duds. (We love tails!) |
Hehe... I was harrassed off the OES-L list for stating an opinion as well. I had over 40 personal emails attacking me and I said heck this aint worth it and came here and have never regretted it for a minute.
Thanks Ron for having this site for us |
See, this is something that has never made a bit of sense to me.
I have a Boxer dog site, just like this one. As soon as my husband and I created our Boxer site we were treated like trash on the other Boxer sites we frequented. We never even mentioned our board on other boards people just started finding it though search engines and links from other Boxer site link pages, plus webrings we joined and such. Why can't all like boards unite? I mean aren't we all out for one thing? To educate the visitors about breed specific issues and such? Why does it have to be such a competition? We have a very small member base compared to here and our board is very friendly, just like this board, we don't allow personal attacks, cursing etc to go on like I have seen on other like boards, but yet we are deemed as worthless or not big enough or whatever. Seems everybody has something negative to say if they aren't a part of your board. Oh well, that's THEIR problem. So I have to agree with you there Ron, it WOULD be great for all like breed boards to unite because no one site is going to have every bit of info some people are looking for and if they could all be friendly and unite to link to one another and such wouldn't that be a fantastic resource!? And what's up with people "thinking" one board is stealing members from another board? If a person goes to a board, sees it, likes it and stays, then that's just what they like apparently. People make their own choices right? Not like admin goes to the other sites, threatens their members to come to their site and then holds them hostage. The way I look at it is, if the board is good enough in the first place....people won't go searching for a new place to participate. Just like this place, I found it, I liked it, I stayed. |
Pam, was that the BML that was weird to you? (just curious - Duds is a boxer and OES mix, so we do both breed lists) ~Katie. |
Katie,
Nope was never a member there. Boxer Central members mainly, then they shut down not long after. |
