So when I got a cold call from this man saying he is from California Firemen's Muster Association asking for donation, I didn't hesitate and sent in a check. Out of curiosity, I went online to check out this association and I found a forum with people calling them fraud. How do one go about to find out if the money is really going to the firemen? Of if a charity group is legit, for that matter....Anyone know? |

I always check guidestar, and there is another easier to use list, but I never remember what it is?????
My first rule - if they call looking for money and won't mail me a hard request, I always say no thank you. |
Thanks Kerry!
I checked Guidestar and that assoication is not on their database Glad that I checked, they did send in the pledge and bumper sticker and the whole 9 yard. Instint told me to check online before putting the sticker on my car...so the wordings of "We Support California Firemen's Muster Assoucation" on the sticker won't translate into "Look, I am the potatoe head who got conned and am so proud of it" for everyone to see!!! Wonder if it is too late to cancel the check... |
call your local newspaper and I think the states AG? they love to track these groups down. And the cancelation fee might be as much as the check |
How timely - this list just asked me for a donation today - and it is probably the easiest list to use to check out your charitable giving solicitations.
