The vet will need to extract it, especially if the pulp is exposed.
Which tooth is it? If it doesn't effect "bite" most likely it won't be a problem showing. |
Hope it's not the canine........those suckers have a long root and pulling could break the jaw bone.............don't tell your friend that!! There are doggie dentists, so maybe a crown or some such??
I had a Pyr rescue with a discolored lower canine, probably nearly dead. Vet said she would rather leave and watch since she wasn't strong enough to get it out. Didn't seem to bother the dog and she was here several months......... I imagine same cannot be said for broken tooth dog, that sounds painful. |
I'd have the vet check it out. Some of my dogs have broken teeth over the years from chewing. Doesn't seem to bother them like it would humans. But if the root or pulp is exposed she needs to do something about it. As for showing her...depends on the breed. Some only require the actual bite to be looked at. Others require full dentation. In any case, I'd stay away form judges that you know are "bite judges". |
Is this a puppy or adult tooth? |
There's an article on disarming a dog that says...
Quote: "...After he cuts away the sharp point, he acid-etches the live pulp within the tooth and fashions a bell-shaped cavity that he packs with two kinds of human-grade composite..."
It's page 12 at this link- http://www.latimes.com/features/home/la ... otogallery If the tooth was simply sheered off, maybe they could do this to save the rest of the tooth and maintain the jaw bone strength/integrity. It probably depends on whether there's a vet in the area that can do dental fillings... |
Wish they had shown the mouth afterwards.
Maybe the lack of response from humans--like the gardener--will slightly undue Cotton's condition. |
The dog is a sheltie, she's about 2. Thanks everyone! |
One of my GSDs broke half a canine off a couple months ago. We went to the vet - actually got referred to a diff. one who was able to grind down the sharp edges and put a clear cap in. It is pretty neat - you can see straight down into the root but it is protected. I think it was under $300 for everything.
My OES Sidney came to me with a broken canine. A diff. vet just recommended a watch and see protocol but her tooth wasn't broken as far down. It really depends on how much of their tooth is missing. |
