Just broke my elbow

Can't even hold or change jillybean's diaper and she's poo'ed. This is terrible. Mr. J is coming home now. Now I hope I don't get the flu at the hospital. Can't type anymore.

OH NOOO!!!!!

I hope it's not broken and "only" dislocated or something. Let us know if we can help somehow.

Heal quickly and keep us posted if/when you can.

Ouch! Hope the docs can fix you up fast. . .
That is very, very painful, lots of nerves thru there. Even dislocated will bring tears.

I'm sorry :ghug: Keep us informed, just a few typed words when you are able.
Oh no! Hopefully it's not actually broken and they can fix you up quickly.
:crossed: :crossed: :crossed: :crossed:
Hoping it's not broken.
Ouchie! Crossing fingers that its not broken.... :ghug:
oh my!!!! How did you manage to do this?!? I too hope its not an actual break; OUCH!
Hope it isn't broken and you are doing better. Sounds very painful.
Oh no! I hope it is not too serious. We will be thinking about you.

:ghug:
How horrid. Get better soon.
Ouch! Like everyone else, I sincerely hope it’s not actually broken, just bruised.

Three years ago Gus, in all his puppy exuberance, unintentionally knocked me down and I landed on my left elbow. I can’t say it was actually broken but I did see the bone chip floating around on its own in the x-ray. The orthopedic surgeon considered going in to pin the pieces back together, then decided against it. So for two months I had my arm in a sling (and, yes, it hurt. Thank goodness for pain medication!).

The worse part about the whole experience was getting full range of motion back. It’s amazing how much we take for granted. For the longest time I couldn’t extend my arm and rotate my hand palm-up or reach up to touch my shoulder. Those physical therapy exercises were no picnic, but little by little – it took around three months – I finally got back to normal. I’m not trying to scare you, just want you to know that no matter how bad things might seem now, they will get better.

Again, best wishes on your diagnosis and recovery. Hang in there!
Well, when mr. j got home, he convinced me that I'll be able to champ it out with pain meds left from when I had the baby until Monday (scheduled appt with orthopedic surgeon) :?

I've never broken anything, but his co-workers and him all have and said I should be in a lot of pain for 24 hrs then it should be fine. ...and outside of pain meds and a sling, and an x-ray, the emergency room won't do much more.

I guess we're trying to avoid the 3hr wait when we called the emergency room with everyone having the swine flu ...and it not being a place for someone who is still vulnerable (women who have had a baby are still not 100% ...immune system). and then bring it home to my preemie. So, we went to a medical supply store and bought some ice packs and a sling.

Elbow area is very swollen now but the pain has gotten more tolerable as he said it would, but I also don't know if it's my pain meds. I can't even turn my wrist which means I'm useless for opening a sippy cup, the gates allllll around our house, and doors. This sucks. Took me 10 min. to change a diaper just now during her feeding.

We also have his parents coming in today to meet their new grand-daughter so... it was already crazy in the home. I'm up now trying to see if I can prep an easy meal w/one hand. Mr. J said he'd do it all, but I can never sleep until things are done esp. with company coming.

I stood up and tripped over and twisted somehow around the baby swing and just remember my elbow getting all my weight when it hit the tile and made a loud sound.
Owwwwwwwww :(

ditto from one whos just been there. Prayers
From one who couldn't use her right arm/hand at all for 4 weeks, you will be amazed how you figure out to do things with your opposing hand/arm. And then to get range of motion back to do all the other tasks you usually do will take some time. But again, you will be amazed how you figure out to do things. As for the food............it's time to eat out or order in! Cut yourself some slack where you can! The same for cleaning the house! Save your energy for the kids. Hope you heal quickly. Rest when you need to. Rest is important for healing.
OUCH!! Hubby's right, though. All in all, you're probably better off this way and pain meds are your friends. Hoping the visit with the inlaws goes well. Let them help!!
Oh NO you poor thing! Sending gentle hugs your way :ghug:
You type well 1 handed. What about pain med and baby milk? In-laws will pitch right in, let them.

Good thinking re: emergency room.......when friend slipped at mall and landed elbow first on tile, emergency room sent her home even with broken elbow leaving to orthopedic specialist several days later. Unless it's compound or unstable fracture, if they can immobilize, better let the specialist deal with it.

Your house is spotless normally, no need to fret over undone......you can reclaim SuperHouseKeeper medal later. Let the in-laws cook, new recipes. (thou not with mine.)
Well, mr. j did my hair and put my clothes on this morning. I can't raise my arm high. Take a wild guess how I look? This will be interesting during the week when he's not here, but as mentioned ...maybe I'll come up with creative ways to get things done.

I made something simple (the crock pot black beans and sweet potato recipe), and had my husband cut the s.potato.
aww jo...i know your pain...broke mine several yrs ago....slipping on wood floors that i pledged...(yeah i know....)....they usually dont cast an elbow....sling it and ace bandage it to your body when you sleep....they will probably want you to start moving it in about three weeks so that you dont lose rotation and motion on it.....

it hurts but do it.... oh and never have your husband apply your makeup...unless you dont mind looking a little garrish.... 8O

It's the "for better or worse" part of the committment. Jim said he needed to go to camisole school! He could figure a top out if it had sleeves. No sleeves & he was at a loss as to where my arms went 8O . A good sense of humor helps!
Wear a mask to the E.R
That really doesn't prevent much I hear :(

I'm glad we didn't go esp. since by yesterday evening the pain was only felt when I moved my arm the wrong way. I don't understand why a broken arm stops hurting after so long, ,but my husband and his friends were right! I mean I can't carry anything in that arm, but i have found it easier to achieve regular tasks. My appt today is at 4:30pm, so all should be good. Thanks! I initially thought NOT GOING was nuts, and it was really worrying my own parents.

The whole thing sounds very painful to me ! How did the visit with the inlaws go????? Did they help with meals and things?? ( I hope!)
Waiting to hear good news! It's not to bad and you will heal quickly! Yes? :D
Small fracture, sling, come back in a few weeks. I guess the elbow is one of the most sensitive places, and while in most other places... you can get a cast for 6 weeks, you can't with your elbow or you wouldn't be able to move it when it's removed. So 2 weeks is the longest they like to put a cast on someone there, and that's only if they really need to.

I'm so paranoid about falling again now! ...but other than that, I'm feeling a lot better.
Excellent, you are very brave, but be careful.....dont try to do too much (if thats possible with little uns and dogs) xxxx
I hope you get to feeling better soon, I wish I lived closer I would help ya out if I could
Hope you're feeling better soon
OUCH heal up soon :?
:D Best wishes from us! So sorry aobut your fall! :ghug:

Willoughby's Mom
Falling is a concern with us old folks.......not you youngin's  Though I understand your concern especially vulnerable with the sling and such and the babies needing attention constantly. Actually having to tend to JillyBean may help the elbow heal faster...in that you are forced to use it and thus be well into rehab.
Hope you are feeling better today... lots of hugs & sheepie kisses for you! :ghug:
You've certainly had more than your share. :crossed: :crossed: :crossed: :crossed: :crossed: that this is it for a while.

:ghug:

Wishing you a fast recovery............Kathy
Glad it wasn't worse than it was. I fx mine too several years ago - but I was bad and never went in. It was fun (after the pain became tolerable) to play around w/ the little bone chip under the skin.....
