Josh and I saw the movie last night. It was pretty interesting to have Spike Jonze as the director, it definately rang of character development of Being John Malcovich. They had chosen to give the Wild Things names and personality, which were all facets of the main character and his mother. And as an aside... it was a perfectly random seen where Max and Carol are in the desert and what do you see... but an OES that is HUGE and walking very slowly in the background. Max said "what is that?" To which Carol said "Oh, it's just the dog... don't feed it, or it will follow you home." |

What did you think of the movie over all? I had heard it deviates a lot from the book, but then the book doesn't have much dialog from which to develop an entire film.
That was one of my very favorite books as a child. I have it now and have read it to all of my nephews and my niece and they've loved it, too. I was very excited to see that it was being made into a movie. But, since I read that review, I'm a little leary about taking my nephew to see it. |
There is a book that the story is more closely based off of called "The Wild Things" which is an extrapliation of Maurice Sendak's book.
I enjoyed it, there were a few points that were a bit dark, but not overall. Depending on how young your nephew is, it may be okay. Josh had a child that sat a few seats over that was pretty engrossed and he had to be about 9. It had a lot of aspects that appealed to me as an adult. That all the wild things were different facets of Max and how he learned to be more aware of his family. You could always see it first and see if you would like to bring him with you. |

Just saw this tonight. What was up with the sheepdog in the movie??!! Does Spike Jonze have a sheepdog? The cameo was so out of place, there must be more to it. Sweet Movie. Max Records was great. |
