With winter coming and I do like tea and hot choco. but prefer heated hot water better than in the microwave. Are they out dated now? |
|
I make my husband use a saucepan to boil his water. He's like you and prefers to do it that way over the microwave. To me, it's a waste of time which is why I haven't bought a tea kettle for him. I'm mean to him.
I think they're real pretty to look at and always am "tempted" to get one when I see my mom use one, but I don't have the extra space to store it. |
I just pulled my "instant" water kettle out from the back of the shelf. Even though I cleaned the lime and scale off the inside, it's not as instant as I expected or remembered. I also have the ubiquitous Revereware whistling tea kettle for the stove. It's probably the one I use most because when I make tea, I make a big pot. I could use a tea pot cozy to keep the pot warm........hmmmmm, maybe one shaped like a sitting sheepdog? |
Tea kettle all the way!! I drink tea and it is not the same quality from the microwave, or I assume other hot water devices. It has to be freshly boiled. |
I have a Revereware tea kettle and I'm concerned because the copper bottom looks like it's ready to wear through. I hope that brand is still made. Mine is at least 20 years old. |
I have a tea kettle that is stainless steel inside as well as out. I was disgusted to find that our porcelain(?) lined kettle had some sort of a breach in it and it was all rusty I side. Blech!
However, right after we bought that new stainless steel kettle I finally plumbed our Emerson "instant hot water" under the sink system correctly. I/we LOVE it!!! A seemingly minor convenience, but the availability of 190 degree water on tap really is niiiiice. I prefer not to think about the condition of the tank. It came with the house, but had been plumbed into a water source with an inadequate saddle valve. I installed a normal supply line with shut off valve and suddenly the stream went from a trickle to a very nice stream of steaming hot goodness. |
sounds nice Ron, I wonder about taste |

I'll bet that would be great for disinfecting stainless steel dog bowls with backwash in them I boil the water in a pot on the stove for doing that - Having it on demand right at the sink would be lovely. This is going on my Christmas wish list (notice I said 'wish' - the chances of it happening are about as remote as shrimp flying). I have a tea kettle but it's mostly for show - It matches the red paint on the wall behind it so it looks very ooo-la-la decor friendly. It too is has a ceramic core that looks really funky right now................CLR cleans it out but I've been lazy. |

We just had one plumbed when we got the drinking water tap--- LOVE IT. Tastes great-- and is wonderful for tea- coca-instant oatmeal- coffe bags- anything! Well worth the $$$. |

All styles still available, tho mine sure isn't as shiney as those new ones. Price is fine, about $25. |
Haha, I just bought a tea kettle at a second hand store for $4.99. I love it. We had been using a pot every day. After we get our house together more I plan on getting a very nice one. I have my eye on a Simplex tea kettle. I was just going to buy a middle of the road nice tea kettle originally but reviews for every brand that I looked at were all over the place. I didn't want to spend $60 and then have it break right away. So I will just use my cheapie one right now and then splurge and get the nice expensive one later. |
Stainless steel inside and out |
I'm not into tea kettles. The Reverware is probably 30+ years old, haven't had much of a chance to try others. |
i grew up with a tea kettle, but that was pre-microwaves...
Now I don't have one - they take up too much room on the stove. i have limited counter space, so it always was a pain to find a spot to put it. Sitting on the stove I spent more time degreasing the outside from cooking spatter. |
We have a tea kettle that was Josh's mothers. It still works, but is a bit old and the inside is starting to wear away. I've been keeping my eye out for sheepdog ones and haven't found any... |
You guys microwave tea????!!!!
Are you freakin kidding me? You don't have electric kettles? I'm floored. |

What a fascinating thread!! I don't think I know anyone in the UK who doesn't have an electric kettle - even people who don't drink tea (believe it or not - not everyone in England drinks tea all day)
I'm with you Cassie! |
I fill my cup with water, microwave the water, take it out and put my teabag in.
Sometimes I use my special teacup for loose tea. It is similar to a coffe press and does a great job. But, I microwave the water, then pour it in the cup. Here is the Teavana tea maker. Mine is old and still works great! http://www.teavana.com/Tea-Products/Tea ... r-16oz.axd I can't see using the stove to warm the water for just a cup of tea - wastes electricity (electric stove). |
sorry - microwaved water and heatd boiling water make such different cups of tea, its one thing I will waste electric for (also electric stove) |
I have 2 electric tea kettles, one at home, one at work....I love tea.
I prefer the electric over stove top or microwave because it keep the water at a constant right temp for brewing tea. |
Maybe my kettle is old, seems to take too long to heat up. Used to use it constantly. Faster on gas stove. |
