Sad update on Portage
It has been a gut wrenching time for us, and although it was "his time" we're all still reeling from it. It's so hard to believe he's gone. Of course, being at the vet that final time perked him up, which made it even harder to do. Our regular vet was on holidays so we had to go with another. (She is wonderful too, but it was hard without our usual vet.) Today flowers were delivered from our regular vet to us. What an amazing man. It helps me a lot. We've leaned on him so much over the years. Portage's ashes aren't back yet, and that's really hard, but we're slowly working through things. I just can't get used to walking into the bedroom and not finding him on the bed. The good news is that my recent memories of him have started to move to the back of my mind and I'm now starting to picture him younger, stronger, and healthy. I'm glad. He was so sick at the end, and I didn't want to remember him like that. Thanks to all for your good wishes and support the last little while. It has meant so much. |

I hope you will feel some relief when you have his ashes back. I know for me, when I brought Dudley's home and put then in his place in the hutch, it was like the circle was complete for me again, he was home, I knew where he was and I feel his presence everyday. | Tracie - I'm so sorry. Even though it was the only real choice, it still is hard. I'm glad you are starting to have better, happier memories of him, before he was old and sick.
Having 2 go last Decmber, I promise it gets easier. And, thankfully you have LOTS more of the fun memories popping back as well.  |

Always such a hard decision, Kelsey did exactly the same thing, sparked up as we went into the vets, I could not believe it and if hubby was not with me would of turned around and taken her home. Rest peacefully Portage, traci portage will always be watching over you and your family. Hugs at this sad time. |
Traci...I have been in your shoes so I can tell you that now Portage will be with you all the time and he is running across the bridge seeing old friends and meeting new ones..(my Millie)..he is jumping and hopping and running after the squirrels...and he is waiting....I am so sorry for you and your family....  |

I am so sorry.. Please find comfort in knowing he is in a better place. He can run free again... Portage is not in pain and you gave him that gift. As hard as it was, you gave him the gift to be free of pain... I am thining of you and hope your heart heals soon! |

I know what you mean about missing your loved one. I have been catching myself looking for Buddy off an on through the day wondering where he was... then remembering what happened. I'll say a prayer for your pup and your family too. We'll all meet again in time. Alan |
