Need to stock up, on what...

:?:

We bring home our new rescue 13 month old Kobe on Friday. I have been waiting for his arrival for a month now, over 50 ppl applied for him, only two were accetable and we were chosen. I have been so excited about his arrival that I forgot to ask anyone what supplies we should get. The rescue is not an OES rescue, she is just a no kill shelter and saved Kobe from the needle at the last hour. He is a beautiful pup with much personality and I want to get him everything, but I think I need to focus on the basics for now. He is bringing his leash, collar, bowl, blankee and a toy, home with him. I already have his food, but what other necessities should I be buying. My husband had an OES as a child and only remembers brushing, so I am asking the experienced here.

What should I buy for my new baby. I want the whole family involved in his grooming any suggestions, advice, basically anything you can offer would be very much appreciated.

Thanks,
Kobe's furever mommy. :D

We just brought Bentley home in November. We were lucky enough that my sister has two OES and brought over a care package. I would say that the thing that was the most useful was a bottle of spray on waterless shampoo!

Within the first couple hours of having him, he went in the backyard and rolled in something very stinky left behind by one of the neighborhood cats. He stunk SO BAD! The waterless shampoo came in very handy. That and the bottle of wine were our favorites!

Just another suggestion to try is having your kids feed the dog. We found that helped Bentley understand that while the kids were smaller than he was, they were the source of his food and therefore farther up the chain of command than he was. Our kids were 4 and 8 at the time.

Congratulations on your new baby. Be patient through the bumps along the way. Bentley has become a great dog!
I would definitely suggest brushes, combs, nail clippers, some quikstop or a styptic pencil, cotton balls and ear cleaner, a crate.... :)
Congratulations!!!!!

I should also stock bitter apple to show your new pup the things that are off limits, treats for your kids to feed him, a few toys, a crate, a couple of boxes of Arm & Hammer Pet Freshener (Is Excellent for pet accidents) and lots and lots and lots of love and hugs for your new family member.

Post some pictures when you get your baby... And welcome to the forum!
Well Id have to say LOTS of chew toys.Slicker brush, pin brush, some baby shampoo,a good blow dryer, and dont forget Natures Miracle just in case he has potty accidents.

The most important thing is which im sure youll have plenty of and thats LOVE and paitence.(sp?)I also have a leave in conditoner for my Mickey, spray it on before you dry him and it helps alot w/ the tangles, and it smells nice.

Have lots of fun it is so exciting when you bring one of these babies home, dont forget a camera to post pics!!!hehe!! :D
Straight pin brushs, not the ones with little balls on the tips.
A gentle leader (or halti), leash and a seatbelt halter.

We started a little travel tote bag with essentials- food, treats,
two pet travel dishes (canvas with plastic lining) and
large bottle of water. Also, pick up bags, brush, and some travel
toys.

Have tote bag, will travel !!!!
Look in the posts under grooming . There are a lot of good posts from Carl Lindon and others what kind of brushes to buy. If you have carpet you should get a Bissel Spotlifter. It's the best thing to clean up accidents(urine) Natures Miracle which someone already suggested is perfect to use in it. I have a large steam cleaner also but I seldom use it. It's much handier to use the hand held one for quick cleanups and the nice thing is you can use the Natures Miracle undiluted in it which is what your supposed to do. To fill up the thingie on the large steamer it would take a whole gallon of it.You can buy a remanufactured Bissel spotlifter at Value City for 20.00 . I think a new one is around 40.00 maybe. The one I got at Va;ue City works great.I would invest in either a prong collar or a gentle leader to get him used to walking and not pulling while he's pretty young. The prong collar looks nasty and inhumane but my vet assured me that it wasn't.I misplaced my Aussies one day and used the old fashioned choke collar to walk her and she was pulling and strangling herself. They don't do that with the prong collar.
Another nice thing to have is a grooming table, that will get Kobe used to being brushed and is a great way to bond with him. Just have fun and enjoy him and everything else falls into place.
ALL OF THE ABOVE!!

Congrats- what fun!!

I am a firm believer in having a nice comfy bed or a puffy/fuzzy crate insert, something a little more than a blankie that will cushion your little baby OES in the comfort he deserves- AND EXPECTS!

Have a ball!

Up.
