Laika has arthritis

Just a little bit, I had Xrays done when she had her teeth cleaned. So the vet checked and sure enough the left leg has a little bit of arthritis. So I put both dogs now fully on chondroitin glucosamine. Anyone have recommendations on exercise and any other food/supplements.

I think just about any active dog will have "some arthritis". The advice for dogs is the same as for people - keep moving. Marley has a little arthritis in her front, secondary to an injury, this morning we walked well over a mile and she wanted to keep going - so we did, tonight she has agility class and will be jumping 24" jumps - on sand.
That is good to know :) Thanks! I am going to keep with the chondroitin glucosamine. I should be taking it too! I feel achy in my bones too. But of course like anything I do it for the dogs and not myself
Its not medically proven but my Nana used to give her dogs a tin of sardines in oil each week. She swore by it, and even if it did nothing for their joints it certainly made their coats glossy!
Mo has had arthritis in her left front carpel (sorta wrist) for 6 years, we started with the glucosamine and then the injected form. From there we've moved into pain killers and have been on Rimadyl for several years now. Only recently has been been receiving a full dose......before I gave 1/4 or 1/2 doses.

Rarely has she allowed her condition to slow her down, bad days she doesn't run as far or as hard, but she can't sit still. Do what you can to help her keep moving. She only has to deal with the physical discomfort, you'll deal with the mental anguish.

Use the glucosamine, sardines, whatever might work. Laika is still young, this is something you'll be dealing with for years to come.
Actually, the oil from the sardines probably did help as fish oil tends to be rich in Omega-3s which is thought to have anti-inflammatory properties. These days people often give salmon oil as a supplement.

My chiro swears by 1000 mg x twice daily Ester C.

Newfie breeder is big on Vit C. You know it takes me longer to fix dog dinners with supplements some nights than ours?

kerry - same for me. 8)
I line up my 7 bowls and go to town! Different foods for my seniors, extra for Chewie for the calories, supplements depending on the dog and their issues, etc.
I never spend that amt of time on my own.......
