Nutro Natural Choice or Purina Pro Plan for Large Breed Pupp

I am trying to decide whether to switch from Pruina Pro Plan for Large Breed Puppy Food to Nutro Natural Choice Lamb and Rice for Large Breed Puppy.

He is 10 Weeks old his stools seem to be fine, he seems to not be eating it as well as he did the first week he was on it. His coat seems to be a little dull. One thing I have notice is he is eating more dirt lately. We had our yard airrated so you get all these little dirt clods everywhere.

Just not sure about Purina any opions? Primarly making choice to nutrition, price and availability.

Nutro just recalled puppy food beacuse they found melted plastics in it. I would stay away from all Nutro products.
If everything is going well for him digestively, I wouldn't switch him off what he's on. OES don't really have a shiny coat and, when they're puppies, it really is kind of a dull black so I wouldn't attribute it to the food. Appetites can mildly fluctuate, too.

Nutro really has had an awful lot of issues in the last few years. They had to have lost tons of customers. You'd think they'd be a lot more careful. If you do decide to look into Nutro, try the Ultra line. It's a better food and, I believe, not made in the same plants as the cheaper lines. I've fed it to my dogs for a long time with no issues but I switched off of it recently because they went from 40 pound bags to 30 for the same price. If I'm already paying that much, there are foods that I like a lot better, like Eagle Pack Holistic or Merrick (which I regularly rotated anyway). For me, I liked getting the extra 10 pounds so I didn't have to go to the store quite so often. I wish they sold 100 pound bags!
Jill, Mars company, the candy bar company, bought Nutro, that is why the food has a price increase. Isn't that rediculous ?
One of the recalled foods was Nutro Ultra (puppy food). I am almost positive that all foods are manufactured at the same plants (they have 3).

I have a question about rotating foods, do you have to wean them off one by gradually decreasing the old when you mix it with the new? I use Ultra and Pro Plan depending on the dog but sometimes they seem bored with it.

Yup. But I find now that I don't even have to do that as long as it's a food that they were introduced to before.
You should always ween but it's something I don't tend to do well and my dogs have never really had issues w/ the change over.

I have used various Purina foods for my dogs (past and present) and have never had any problems. I think Purina is a good food...and they have a lot of options. My OES loved his Purina when he could eat it. Unfortunately his allergies make it so that I need to buy him special food. :(
Ok Thanks for input. I guess the first week he was really scarfing down food, now he tends to just graze through out the day. I guess it could be that I am free feeding and he is used to it. He just seems to each a few pieces at a time. But at the end of the day he is eating about 3 to 4 cups.

I gave him some chicken he really like that. Is it ok to give them chicken and or hamburger that is not really seasoned that much. I figure if I don't give him to much it should be ok?
Riley used to free feed and did the same thing...bites here and there. I had to go to meals though bc then the free feeding got out of hand bc he was eating all the time...the grazing stopped and the extra pound or 2 came on.

The chicken and the beef aren't bad (with little, or no seasoning is best) as long as it's not all the time bc then he'll be less likely to continue eating his dog food.
