Last night I was skyping with DH. I had video on and he was watching the dogs. Rastus was just sitting on his bit of the sofa, so I took the headset out and DH started calling to him. Both dogs got excited to hear Daddy's voice. Rastus jumped off the couch and ran between the baby gate (leads to the front door, where we come home from work) and the door to the back yard. He got very confused and kept looking and looking, he could hear him but no Dad. Tiggy ran to the lap top and stood staring at the speaker with her head tilted. She didnt even lift her head just stared and stared. DH wants know who you think is the smarter dog. The one who knows where the sound is coming from and looks there despite the obvious fact that DH does not fit in a laptop. Or the dog who goes and looks in the two most likely places for DH to be. |

I have to say, my dogs do something similiar. When we come home from a walk and Josh is home, I open the door and tell the dogs "Where's daddy?" Without hesitation, they fly into the office.
I can't tell you how many times they have flown clean past him as he was on the couch in the front room... |
I have taught my girls the command "Get Adam"; they are to run and find Adam where ever he is. Its a fun game but has come in handy at times too. But since we've practiced it everywhere; at the park, on walks, and in the house, they don't look to any one spot for him. Interestingly, they still do it very differently. Tonks takes the "I'll check every inch of the house and find him!" spastic approach, while Luna will wait a moment and listen to see if she can tell where he is before she runs off to look. I suspect Luna is smarter, or at least the less energetic of the two girls. |
